I'll be right up front and say I took this idea from currycook's thread about the AKL. I just thought it was such a good idea that we shoudl expand it.

In case you haven't read it (and from the number of replys in that thread you probably already have) the various "complaints" against AKL are discussed and alternate views of them are presented. Again, I think this is true of any resort at WDW.

People complain about the All Stars because they are budget and thus don't have all the extras that a resort like the GF, AKL or CR have. People complain about the PR , CR, AKL and GF for being too expensive. People need to take a moment and consider their complaints in my opinion. It's one thing to say that service was bad, or that rooms weren't upkept well, or staff was surly. That's something that is helpful to all of us. Saying a resort is too expensive.... well why did you choose it? Just because AKL is new and exciting doesn't mean it's right for you! Just because ASMu is a value hotel doesn't mean you won't like it there!

I will give you one example to close this out, and then let the flaming of me begin. For our upcoming honeymoon my DW (to be) and I are staying at CBR, a Moderate resort. We REALLY would have liked to stay at the WL, but decided that for us it would be better to have a longer stay then a nicer room. We also went with CBR because it had the option of King beds (something we liked), had a nice theme, and was not too far from the parks. Am I going to be resentful of CBR for not being the GF or the WL? No, I know that as a Moderate I had to give up some of the frills of a Deluxe resort. I'm not going to be annoyed at bus service. I'm not going to complain about the food at the resort. You know why? Because I did my research and came up with the resort that worked best for my needs. Well, that and it will be my Honeymoon.

Ok, I think I've gone on long enough. So let's see what the rest of you folks think.:chat:

I believe you have a valid point. Each person should choose the hotel they want based on their needs and what they can afford. No matter where you stay, you are still at Disney and it is still magical. Just like anything in life, you will pay for the extras. Everything is a trade-off. DH and I honeymooned at Disney and had a blast, and are going back in November. Good luck to you and your soon to be DW!

I think you are exactly right on this. There is a reason there are so many differnent resorts at Disney - its so guests have a CHOICE of what they want. People have widely varied tastes and expectations of what a vacation is supposed to be and of what they enjoy doing, Disney has done a wonderful job in trying to fulfill the wants and needs of all their guests.

For my wife and I the key is planning. We have figured out what is important to us for location and ammenities and then weighed that against the cost of the different resorts. For our upcoming trip we decided on the Polynesian. At the same time we are working with friends to plan a trip for next summer where we will be spending almost every waking minute in the parks (looking at the moderates and values for that trip).

The one thing I do know for sure - we LOVE Disney! and no matter what the location I am sure we will always have a wonderful time

Hi Stitchfan,

I'm not going to flame you because I agree with you. You know wht the prices are when booking. Should the service suck or whatver is a problem but complaining about prices or "level" of resort stay shouldn't be a real problem. My Dh and I are trying to squeeze in a trip in Sept (if the army lets him have vacation then) and we could afford to stay at the deluxe resorts for about 3 days maybe and then back home. We chose to stay at a moderate for 5 days and a value for 5 days (of course baring any problems with our leave). It's a matter of people's priority and budget. We choose to stay in a more moderately priced resort so we can stay longer and eat where we want. For the people that can afford to stay places like AKL for 10 days then thats great because one day we will too, hopefully. I'll happily pay out the money to do that and just be happy to be on a wonderful vacation with my family, when there are so many people here that can't afford to even think about going to WDW.

Sorry for the soapbox...I'll step down now. :o)

Have a great weekend,
Tina

Disney gives us lots of choices, which I like. I have never chosen The All Stars, simply because I cannot stand the decor.
My resort and room is just as important to me as the parks.
HOWEVER, if money was tight that time, you can bet I will choose The All Stars, and not complain about it, because at least I will be on-site.

It's funny, but, one way I choose my resort is that I want a large buffet breakfast very close by, so that I can eat a big breakfast, and then run back to my room to brush my teeth before heading out to the parks for the day. I am one of those types of people that when I first wake up, I can barely wait to get to the food.
