Yea I don't know. Not familiar with that one. I've been to motel 6 Anaheim maingate and that was pretty good except it's a little bit of a walk about 15 - minutes which was fine in the morning and tough at night after the day in the parks. If I stay there again I would use the shuttle they have.

Next trip is booked for the desert palms and I have heard good things.

We have stayed at the BWPPI, and we really like it, and book all of our stays with them. We are super lazy, and don't want to have to walk, or pay to ride a shuttle, which we have done in the past. Some of the cons about the PPI might be the small pool, and the outside hallways to the rooms. I have heard people complain about noise, but we have never had an issue with it. Although this past trip my DH said the lady in the next room kept opening the door and yelling at people to be quiet. He would look and never see anybody . One thing that bothered me on this last trip was that the toilet paper didn't roll on the roller thing. Now, I am sure most people are rolling their eyes right now, but it was really annoying!! Also my DH got it to roll as we were leaving...that's why I need him! Anyways, we stay there all the time now because we love the location, haven't had any noise issues, the room is always clean, and the breakfast is fine, and I have heard it is expanding this spring. We like the little sitting area, and the staff has always been very kind and helpful. Hope that helped!

We will be going to Disneyland in December and I am wondering about hotels outside of the park. I would like close to the entrance as I will have an almost five year old and a one year old who will need naps. We will be there for at least a week. Any suggestions?

Rooms were clean and good sized. Very very small pool area, parking lot was tight to say the least but overall I would recommend it.

I rated it lower than Hojo and FFI because I like the perks of (if I'm staying outside of the resort hotels) McDonalds, Millies, and Mimi's. Nice to be able to hit Mickey D's for breakfast to save some green. Also my son is a big pizza connoisseur and to have a pizza hut express inside FFI was nice. Hojo has best of the pool areas followed by FFI and then BWPPI. If not of that matters then stay in the closest.

Although I've only been to Disneyland once, I was a travel agent for many years and without a doubt the Howard Johnson was always a family favourite for every person I booked especially once the spray park was completed. A great respite for younger kids on a hot DL day.

When I went to DL in May of '11 we stayed at the Sheraton Park and really enjoyed it.
It had a more upmarket feel but was still close enough to walk back from DL during the day for a swim ( or would have swam but it was unseasonably cool ). Plus there is the shuttle(ART) for a very reasonable cost.

We also received a 100$ credit at the hotel per room, connecting rooms as well as park view rooms ( we were able to see the fireworks ) as per our requests.

I plan on going back to DL in October and we will book the same hotel. The hotel credit promo has been extended but it looks like we'll received 150$ based on our 7 night stay.

I usually seek out the cheapest rate. First by looking at booking directly and through third parties online. Then I call and see if they will beat the online rates or match them.

I've stayed at the BWPPI, Fairfield Inn and Anaheim Plaza (since you didn't mention one of the Disney Hotels, I'm assuming you are checking out the closer ones on Harbor).

BWPPI would be my favorite with little children as it's right at the crosswalk and you can see if the fireworks on the north side of the building. The breakfast isn't anything special but it's more than what we normally eat at home (cereal, fruits, muffins, donuts, bagels, toast, juice, etc). Rate wise was about 129 a night. Rooms had 2 queen beds and a little loveseat type chair that could be made out if needed.

Fairfield Inn is a little further and has McD's in the parking lot. No free breakfast. Same 2 queen with a loveseat type pull out but made the room very crowded. About the same price of 129. When we were walking to the Fairfield Inn, I was jealous of those going into the BWPPI as they were already in their rooms.

Anaheim Plaza-my kids are grown so being so close isn't as much a priority. The Plaza is still near, closer than HoJo's (to me anyway) and Candy Cane Inn. No free breakfast but they do have microwave and fridges and lots of parking. Large bathroom area, very large rooms. 2 queen beds. Motel was older but clean and staff was nice. Across from Tower of Terror. We paid 79 a night.

All the prices quoted are the prices we paid and may/could be different but it's about the same price range for the three. We now stay at the Anaheim Plaza as I can't justify another 60 a night since we are all adults now and it's just one block. If I still had small kids, BWPPI or Anaheim Plaza.

These are all great choices, with the three best in red, IMO. I am not a 'huge' fan of BWPPI, but it is the closest off-property hotel you can get.

I also like the Carousel Inn.

I use priceline 95% of the time. I won't stay at any place lower than 3 stars per priceline. I have never paid more than $75/night (most rooms have always been about $50) and all the rooms I ever won were all great, clean, comfortable. Some where farther than others so we took shuttles or I park at the Toy Story Lot (we have parking with our PAP). I know most don't like the risk of not knowing where they are staying, but I think cost wise, it's worth it.

The other 5% is booked at HOJO when they have AP rates available for $59.

So if you are looking to walk and want something close, I think HOJO and Candy Cane is best (we love Candy Cane, but once I found Priceline & Hojo, we have yet to stay there again).

If you don't mind shuttles, try priceline.

Cheap! lol I wish. Prefer to keep it around $140 a night. My first post is misleading. I'm not just looking for my little family, it's a huge family reunion (if everyone actually comes) so we have a lot of people to think about. Since I posted this my husband woke up one day and could not walk due to insane muscle spasms for weeks. He's better now after five weeks of physical therapy but he felt like he was having issues with our mattress for the two days before this happened so now I am looking for firm and new mattresses. It was already a tough task to look for a place for so many different people but now it's just getting comical!

The hotels you listed seem to be at the top of everyone's list. It sounds like Park Vue Inn may be a little loud as well as Candy Cane Inn may be out due to beds (but I love their prices!). I haven't checked out Ramada Maingate yet. I'm creating this ridiculous spreadsheet in Excel and am not sure I am actually getting anywhere!

Do you mind listing why you're not a big fan of BWPPI? That's been a front runner but I have some super picky people in our group so knowing the negatives is a good thing right now. I'll look up the Carousel Inn.

I would highly recommend the Howard Johnson for the kids suite and water park area. I am not sure if you need a suite, but our kids are similar in age and we absolutely have to have a suite over a single room. We get a 20% discount on the HoJo suite and the prices have been great. I would book asap though- you can always cancel.

We have stayed at the Park Vue Inn suite but I was not a fan. It is very close to the park entrance, so if you really want to minimize your walking distance, it might be a good option.

We're definitely interested in suites. How do you get the 20% discount at HoJo? What didn't you like about PVI?

personally I would not factor in the pool for a DEC trip......too cold for me !

But we live in Seaside, OR, and as my four year old says, "I LOVE HYPOTHERMIA!" lol We have a hard time getting her out of pools! The rest of the fam that will be there is from Washington, Wyoming and California so it might not be high on their list! I wonder if it will even be open...

Thank you! My grandfather who will be at the reunion has to walk or ride his bike to McDonald's every day at 5 or 6 am. It is a MUST for us to know where McDonald's is and you just scratched something off of my to-do list. Seriously!

AP is the Anaheim Plaza Inn, honestly they are pretty much tied in my mind. I love the play area at the HoJo but the rates have gone up a lot and that's not enough to get me there anymore. I love the rates at the AP but the rooms are dated. Neither HoJo nor AP have a free breakfast and the AP charges daily for parking. CCI has dated rooms but they also have a free dedicated shuttle and a good free breakfast. I find the best rates at the AP, HoJo & CCI are comparable.

I just booked the Anaheim Plaza for October. We got ten days for under $750 which I think is fantastic. True, there is a $4 per day parking charge but I can live with that. We would have chose one of the closer places on Harbor, but for that price we can walk two extra minutes.

Oh, and WiFi is kind of a rip at $10 per day, but I'll forego my laptop and just use my phone which I am upgrading before the trip.

And they don't have free breakfast. But if I remember correctly they have a breakfast buffet which is supposed to be good for $12 I think. We might check it out once or twice.

They have fridges and the microwaves are by request. Guess they don't have enough to go around? weird. anyway, since we're driving we'll throw our little micro and a toaster in the car. that should cover breakfast most mornings.

I've never heard of anyone not getting the microwave and refrigerator they requested at Anaheim Plaza.
Anaheim Plaza is our go to place now due to price. It's clean and not a bad walk at all. We took cereal, milk, juice and I made muffins and put them in large baggies.
