I am in the early "looking" stage for next year and am considering hotels in the 192 area. In peoples experiences which section/area would be considered a great location around there? We have been to I Drive now and would like to stay somewhere else. We are deliberating over a Hotel vs a Villa but need info on the hotel areas.

Last year we stayed at the Liki Tiki Resort. It was fantastic , they were self contained apartments. We had a lounge and dining area, a bedroom, bathroom. Full kitchen with washer and dryer in the bathroom. Couldn't fault it whatsoever. It was at the very end of 192 near to the I27(?) but with having the car it was not a problem at all.

We normally stay at a villa just off the 192, to be honest not aware of many really good hotels in the area.
La Quinta resort (think thats the right name), formerly Sheraton Lakeside, is supposed to be quite nice and is in a very good location.
If you need advice on villas please pm me.

Thanks,

I think that the La Quinta is now the Best Western Lakeside. Got a like for like price on this for 3 weeks in comparison to what i paid for 3 weeks this year in the Radisson Barcelo.

Have you considered staying on-site, for at least part of your 3 weeks?

We have discussed it Tim and it is not for us. We positively hated it at Paris on site (A few reasons behind it) and it would take a miracle to get us back.

Try the radisson main gate - we stayed there last trip and it was 5 minutes from AKL via the sherberth road shortcut. Room was great - pool was great - price was great!

We had booked to stay again this year but decided to stay in the AKL since it's our honeymoon.

What about Lake Buena Vista? A bit more half way than 192, especially if you intend visiting Sea World or Universal or doing some shopping.

Have stayed in this area for last two visits after I-Drive for first five trips and then once on 192 and find the area much more attractive, modern and well serviced, as well as being near to the big Cheese's land. ::MickeyMo

Maybe a villa is a better bet, there are plenty to choose from just off the 192 that give easy access to Disney, the I4, supermarkets and restaurants.

The only downside is you have to drive anywhere and there is no entertainment on-site.
For us though all the advantages make it worthwhile, mainly the extra room/privacy/private pool/cooking facilities.

Thanks Johnny,

We are weighing up all th pro's and cons of both, right down to the fact my eldest gets really silly and over excited playing with her cousin sometimes. In a villa it would be harder to keep her calm compared to a hotel room.

Its a toughie, but seen as we will be flying scheduled again we have 2/3 weeks before the flights start to filter through.

Yes I know it can be difficult - anyway I have just responded to your PM - good luck

We have often stayed in this area as you know, and I like the location. I do prefer the LBV area though.

That said, we are staying very near the junction of the Poinciana Blvd and the 192 next May.

I think there are pros and cons for all areas, at Poinciana you are pretty close to a Publix Supermarket and have easy access to Disney/I4 - it just comes down to what suits you best really.

Hi
We stayed at the Double Tree Resort on the 192 in 2004. This was a good base, we had a 2 bed home with a kitchen living area. Downstairs shower and tiolet and upstairs shower and bath. We had a balcony which looked out onto the lake. It was a peacefull place to go back to with a bar and swimming pool, but the breakfast wasn't up to scratch and we only ate there the once.
There is a small shop and a launderette and the staff were ok.
I personaly wouldn't stay there again and next time we are going in a Virgin villa which is at the west end of the 192 by china town.
It was a first time in florida in 2004 and we thought we would feel abit more secure staying on a site with help at hand if we needed it. We decided that because we got along fine without any help we would stay all on are lonesome next time so thats what we are doing.
I cant wait to relax by are pool without any one else there.

sorry cant help you over hotels, as we have never stayed in one. we have always been in villas since our youngest who is 14 now was 6 when we first went. the great advantage of having a villa is that you can make as much noise as you want, have your own pool to splash about in and have a barbeque, and not worry about upsetting anyone next door, as in a hotel you do have to consider everyone, in a villa there are other families splashing about etc! its more home from home but obviously with sunshine and other luxuries. :flower:
