I was wondering if you can suggest any hotels in Newport, RI. We were just invited to a graduation in May. I tried the Marriott and Hyatt but they are booked. Well, Marriott had a room available for $385 per night with a minimum of 2 nights. We are looking for just one night, which would be check in on Saturday and check out on Sunday. I don't know much about the area so I don't know which hotels are decent/nice.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

I'm going there this summer-so subscibing to your thread:)

I'd try Hotwire for a hotel in Newport and if you find no luck there, there's a small town just a few miles down the road where there are numerous decent-priced hotels (Middletown, RI) ~ Marriott Courtyard, Hampton Inn, etc.

Most hotels right in Newport will have a 2 night minimum in the summer. Look in Middletown, you'll have better luck booking a hotel for one night.

Try the Hotel Viking @ 1 Bellevue Ave
We are long time visitors to Newport and have stayed at the Marriott many times and have been disappointed in their accomodations and service
We discovered the Viking this past summer and loved it
It is an older hotel but we thought the rooms were very nice and it is conveniently located.

I just stayed at the Holiday Inn in Middletown, it was really nice for a HI. We have stayed at the Hampton Inn and Courtyard also. I'll bet most of the downtown Newport hotels are sold out or have nightly minimums for graduation weeks. It's not that hard to get into town from Middletown at all.
There is a Best Western behind Flos, it's the BW Mainstay. I've never stayed in it, but it's a great location, looks decent and it's across the street from the beach.

Thank you for the suggestions. Do you happen to know how long of a ride it is from Newport to Middletown?

If you are considering a B&B, try the Melville House. Cozy with great inn keepers.

Less than 10 minutes, maybe a little more with traffic. It's a straight shot right into Newport. The Residence Inn is very nice and the Holiday Inn Express was okay.

We have stayed at the Hotel Viking as well and it is way better than the Marriott. Lately, we have been staying in Jamestown or even Narragansett if the rates in Newport are too high. Narragansett is a bit father away, but very beautiful. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Middletown and would never stay there again. It's convenient to Newport, but the hotel was not very clean.

I got married in Newport and many of our guests stayed in B&Bs and had great experiences! Definitely worth looking into.

We stayed at the Samuel Durfee House last summer and it was very nice. My husband and I are not B&B type of people, but this was really a wonderful Inn with lots of privacy and the breakfasts each morning were delicious! Also, it is located centrally between the mansion area and the downtown/harbor area.

If you like B & Bs, these are all good choices. http://www.historicinnsofnewport.com/index.htm

I actually do not like the Marriott or the Hyatt at all. They are not very nice hotels and they are overpriced because they are in Newport.

I have stayed at the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina and it is nice....

Try the Pilgrim House. Not sure if you'll need 2 nights in May. We stayed there a few years ago and it was nice and very reasonable.
