we are considering a vacation to DL next June, coming from the east coast so wanted to make it a week long stay. thought a few nites at DL then find a nice beach resort to "relax" for a few days. Looked at the Del, but pretty expensive for just hanging out at the beach, so any other suggestions? Maybe something closer to DL (though I think San Diego is only 2 hrs or so away) I am looking for beachtime, pooltime and a kids club (for a 6 yr old).

Could I make it work if we just stayed at DL? Are any of the hotels there worth just hanging out at for a few days? Do they have a kids club in any? Also, is there a disney dining plan at DL like WDW?

We are looking between this vacation idea and a trip to a Beaches resort (Jamaica or Turks & Caicos)...DS (age 6 at vacation time) wants to go to DL to ride Indy ride and go to Legos store, DH wants to lay around some, and I want to go anywhere some else makes the bed and cooks for a week !! (oh, I wouldn't mind a massage either)
Anyway, looking for some good info on a SouthernCal vacation to satisfy all.
Thanks !!

Since your son is interested in the Lego store he would probably be in heaven going to Legoland which is in Carlsbad (a north San Diego suburb). Its one of our favorite places.

DL does have a DDP. I would not stay at DL the entire time if you want a relaxing beach vacation, it is no where near the beach. 30 miles in LA traffic can be like 100+ elsewhere. =)

You cannot beat the perfectly sanded beach at the Hotel Del, and the village of Coronado is great for shopping and has tons of restaurants.

I live in San Diego so I don't hit the hotels much ;) , but there are plenty of oceanfront hotels & resorts here. If you narrow it down to an area or a few specifics let me know and I'll tell you what I know about them if anything.

If you are baseball fans you should check out attending a Padre game, the park is awesome. Aside from Legoland also have SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park as major attractions. There is a resort across the street from SeaWorld that has some little cottages right on the sand on the bay and looks like it would be great for families as I believe that they rent jet skis, bikes, etc.: www.paradisepoint.com
but I have never stayed there, I'd check out the tripadvisor reviews before booking.

thanks for the info, I just took a quick peak at paradise point, it is beautiful. I'll have to look into the pricing and compare to the Del (a little too expensive for us next year.) If we love SanDiego, which I think we will, we can come back and do a bigger all around town vacation another time !!

how about the hyatt huntington beach? it's close to dl, so if you didn't want to split your stay, you could drive there. but I recommend splitting your stay.

hyatt hb has a kids club, nice pool * hot tub & is directly across from the beach. if you want you can rent bikes & ride up to down town or drive & hang out there as well.
