We figure that on our way driving to WDW we will most likely be stopping to sleep at a hotel somewhere in SC, along I-95.

Since we will be stopping late in the evening, there won't be a time to drive around and "check out" a number of hotels. I'm afraid of finding the room to be in bad condition, but being too tired to move to another hotel.

If you've ever stayed at a hotel along this route and found the rooms to be in very bad shape or really great, please reply with the location so I can avoid it or use your recomendation.

PS- we are just stopping to sleep and grab a free cont breakfast-- not looking for any frills, just clean, bathrooms in good working order and comfortable beds.

NOT the Comfort Inn and Suites in Florence SC on I-95.

Dirty, smelly, just bad all the way around.

THANKS! :teeth:
That was actually one that I had looked at! I'll cross it off now!
You know, they all look so nice on their website, but can be SO different once you get there! That's why I posted this question.

There are a few Holiday Inn Expresses along this route. (I was looking the other day)
I have found that overall most of their places are clean, safe, etc. They are usually fairly new or recently renovated....

Thanks! I am requesting directories from the major hotel chains and I forgot about Holiday Inn.......thanks for reminding me!

PS- My parents are driving home today from Sharbot Lake, Ontario where they spent the last month fishing!

We have stayed in the Country Inn & Suites at the Savannah Exit. Very nice and clean. We would definetely stay there again.

Good point! I was thinking that we might book with one decent chain for much of our trip, and Holiday Inn might fit our bill. I would imagine most chains have loyalty programs as well, and staying in the same chain would help increase points/privleges.

That said, anyone have any ideas for where to stop between, oh, Toronto and Orlando? We need to drive down in three days to meet up with friends from California (their last night = our first night at WDW).
I was thinking maybe three eight hour segments, or three 7 hour segments
and one three hour segment on our arrival day. Any suggestions welcomed :wave2:

I live in Florence, SC. It is not best to stay on Lucas Street, the better exit is Radio Road or Hospitality Blvd.

My favorite place is the SpringHill Suites. We stayed there last year for a week while we house hunted. It was bright, beautiful, clean, free breakfast.

Also very clean would be Hampton Inn or the Courtyard Inn.

I think at the I-95 & 20 intersection it would be a nice stop. There is a mall there, places to eat from Fast food to Outback. Easy on - off the highway.

Good Luck! :wave2:

We have stayed many times at the Holiday Inn in Walterboro SC. It is very clean and it also includes a breakfast buffet in the price of the room. Walterboro is about 1 hour from the GA border, so I'm not sure if you want to go that far but if you do, you can feel confident about this one.

Stay away from any hotel that has "COMFORT" or "BUDGET" in the title.

I drove down from the Poconos last year...wasn't too happy with the quality of the SC I-95 hotels.

I left at 5:00am...arrived in Florence around 6:00pm (with many rest stops & horrible DC & Virgina traffic jams..on a Saturday). I really should have kept on going till I reached Georgia. Much nicer there & closer to Dis!

That is what I am doing next month, Hope to make it to Georgia.

Have fun! It's really not a bad trip at all. :wizard:

We like the GA hotels too if you can make it that far. We've stayed in the southern most Savannah area Country Inns and Suites and the Holiday Inn (not Express) in Brunswick. Brunswick is cheaper if you can make it and you can get good deals there on Hotwire.com. I got the HI there for about $45/night and had a newly renovated room.

We never have good luck in SC it seems although we stay there on the way back. The best chains I've found are Country Inns and Suites and Holiday Inn Express although both are more pricey than other places.

We've had good luck with the Quality Inn in St. George, SC. Nothing fancy, but clean. We've stayed there the past 4 trips on the way down. It's maybe an hour from the border of Georgia.

We were shooting for Manning, SC, but if we make good time maybe we will hit this one. In the directory the listing for this site it states, "free deluxe cont. brkfst". Did you have the breakfast there? .............just wondering what the "deluxe" means (???)

I've stayed in the same place.
If you can make it to Savannah before stopping, I definitley recommend the Country Inn and Suites. It's off exit 94, and left at the light. There is also a Cracker Barrel, Shoney's, McDonald's, and a few other hotels. The Country Inn has an indoor pool, and a continental breakfast. And best of all, your drive in the morning will only take about 4 hours to get you into WDW (and that's with traffic)

We stayed in the Days Inn in Dillon, SC on the way back from our 8/04 Universal trip, and it gets a big thumbs DOWN. It was just old, grungy, and in disrepair. You can scratch that one off your list as well.

I agree!
Years ago I followed Mary's advice on mousesavers.com: "Avoid Days Inns at all cost!"

We stayed at Hampton Inn at the savannah exit. It was very nice and had a good breakfast buffet also- very clean too.
