I'm not even sure if this is an issue or not, but I've never stayed offsite (as an adult) and might be going to WDW with a friend/coworker in October for my 21st birthday. I know with on-site hotels the shuttles are almost non-stop with no longer than a half an hour wait in between buses. However, I don't expect off-site to have stand up to that.. I just want to know that if I want to go I don't have to wait 4 hours until the next shuttle.

the new Fairfield Bonnet Creek seems to have the best service for an offsite.

most are going to be 3 or 4 in the morning - same in the evening - that is all - some are even worst.

what hotels are you looking at - sometimes their bus schedule is on their website.

We're looking at the Caribe Royale Hotel or Hilton Grand Vacations. I'm a little scared now. I want to be able to leave the park when I want.

Downtown Disney hotels shuttle runs every 30 minutes.

herc.

Doubletree, Grovesnor, Hilton. Not sure which other ones. We've statyed at the Doubletree and really liked it. Very spacious, counts as onsite for EMH and Shuttle Service and really good chocolate chip cookies.

Hilton, BW, Grosvenor,Doubletree, BV Palace (formerly Wyndham) and the Royal Plaza. The Holiday Inn is under construction.

You might consider staying on-site. DME will transport you for free, a value or moderate hotel might not be that much more when you add in your ground transfers.

If you stay at a hotel like Caribe and don't rent a car it's inevitable that some of your savings will wind up going to pay for cabs.

Thank you for the info. I'm checking the website out now. The reason why I'm against staying in a value or moderate resort is because they're very large, I have a problem with my leg and I can't walk THAT much. I use the scooters in the parks. And I like restaurants, not cafeteria's. I'm a bit picky.

SUGGESTION PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER- smae resort all buildings close to transport- ignore caps please

The highest priced resorts have the most buses that run, then mid, then value. Took a Disney Planning class and they ran all the details down for us. If you aren't going in peak season, everything but value is still just fine. Did notice in October some valuer's were waiting a bit. Still think Disney transpo is the way to go though.

I would go with Pop - yes it has alot of rooms. but it is very well organized.

are you going by yourself???

the reason I am asking is because all WDW resorts have free wheelchairs....

if you have someone to push you that should work....

but then get you can also make the silly chair work alone....

I would stick with a WDW resort if you must have good transportation.

sorry but that is not true....

the opposite in fact...

I have waited over 45 minutes at BW for a mk bus - at the value resort the wait has ALWAYS been less than 15 minutes.

I have complainted often to WDW about this.... I got told they would get more complaints from the value resort.

Okay so I changed - I know rent out my DVC points and stay at value resorts when I stay onsite....

also with the deluxe resorts lots of time you will be sharing a bus with other deluxe resorts.

coming back from the MK you can be sharing with all the other Epcot resorts - or just one or two - but you won't be on a bus going back to your resort alone....

same with the MK resorts - WL shares with FW for some places, with the Polyn for other places, GF shares with Polyn for some places, with the Cont for others....

No, I'm not going alone. And I'm a bit stubborn too. I won't do wheelchairs. I only do the scooters because the parks are just waaay too large. And I really insist on staying offsite. I'm looking at the Royal Plaza or Buena Vista Palace.

IMHO, I think your best bet might be to stay onsite and rent the scooter from an offsite company instead of renting one from the park each day.

you'll find the rental price of the scooter to be equal or better per day, plus you have use of the scooter outside the park. scooters can be driven onto disney transportation, which runs more frequently than offsite transportation.

check out the FAQ thread for ECV's on the disABILITIES board. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=595713
for more info about offsite companies. i've used walker and randy's, and both are reliable.

scooters ARE better than wheelchairs :thumbsup2

I've been to that forum, thank you. And although I do know it would be cheaper to rent one privately, I really do not like bringing any sort of unnecessary attention to my disability. And with having to get it on the bus, using it around the hotel, etc.. I don't want that. I'm still very young and active and I try at all costs to avoid people knowing that I have a disability. That might not be the best attitude to some people.. But it's just how I am.

Wow, you sound a little like me--at least the way i was a few years ago before the MS kicked in a bit more. my family didn't even know (extended family that is--DH and kids knew i've got a problem). i just said i have knee trouble, back trouble or whatever if i'm having a tough time that day and someone noticed my walking difficulty. i don't want "pity" or all that "concern" focused on me.

but that doesn't stop me when on vacation.

at wdw--who will i ever see again! it makes no difference to me if strangers see that i need help with something. it's not that big a leap from using a scooter in the parks to using one at the resort. and it makes touring downtown disney and the boardwalk much easier.

i can tell from your posts that you have your heart set on staying off site. but i just wanted you to know i think that if frequent access to shuttles and minimal walking are issues, renting an ecv offsite and staying onsite seems to be a good solution.

of course, you have to consider the resort wants of the person your traveling with. and perhaps you don't want that person to see you in a scooter full time....

good luck with whatever you decide.

By all accounts, the Renaissance has a pretty good shuttle service. Their busses run every hour to the Disney parks, from 7am until an hour after closing.
