Hotel switch for 1 night

We are staying at the PORS in October, but want to stay one night at the Poly. The price at the Poly is too much to do our entire stay there. We are also doing dining so it would be too expensive to book two separate reservations with the dining. If we did this we would have dining for the 4 days and 1 day without.

Question...is it worth it for one night? We would have some down time on the evening of the day we check in and the next day to enjoy the pool, etc. I've always wanted to stay there again.

Also, how easy is it when they transfer your bags? I read you have to be there for them to deliver the bags to the new hotel? Is that true? Or will they just put them in the room for you?

Any advice would be great!

If you are going to the Poly, you would have to be there for them to deliver the bags.

Don't forget that your dining doesn't expire until midnight of the day you check out - so if you "save" some credits you'll be able to use them on your Poly day if you make your last day your Poly stay (instead of the first day).

For example, we stayed at WL with the DDP, then checked in BWI for one night without the DDP. On the day we checked in BWI, we were able to use our leftover DDP credits until midnight of that day, or essentially had another whole day of dining because we had saved some of those CS and snacks.

Of course it all depends on how much food you want to eat while you're on your DDP days - we're older and actually had to run around trying to use up all the rest at the end. Disney fudge - yummm!

Thank you! We do plan to make it our last day. I did hear the dining went through the day of check out so that is good. I have to decide by today because our package needs to be paid for today.

Will they hold the bags at the front desk and then bring them to you when you actually get in the room? If we check out of POR by 9 am is it unreasonable to assume the bags would be at the Poly by 4:00 pm??

Sorry but since we drive over we just take our bags over with us in our car when we switch resorts so I've never had them sent over for us - but even when standing there checking in with our bags if our room isn't ready yet they will hold the bags in bell services for you and then you just call down from your room and they'll bring them up. I think your timeline would give them plenty of time for the Poly to have them in their bell services storeroom waiting for you...just don't forget to leave out what you'll need before you see your bags again!

IMO, it is not worth it to change for only one day even if you have some "down time" planned. You will have to add additional time to pack your bags and get them ready to move the next morning and check out of POR. Then, you have to clear out of your room by 11:00 AM the next morning. You say that you will arrive at 4:00 PM ... is it really worth the extra $$ for 18 hours? I think that 3 days is the absolute minimum for resort hoping. Sorry .

I agree with RobinB. I have always wanted to stay at Poly, too. But, I just can't justify the high cost. I like to go every year, so feel I should keep costs down. I have often thought about doing what you are thinking about . . . but decided it just wouldn't be worth it for 1 night.

We stayed at the AKL for one night on our November trip last year. We were staying offsite in a villa for 12 days and our anniversary fell about 3 days before we came home. I booked the AKL as a surprise and we checked in there at about 6pm after a day at the parks. We had a lovely time enjoying the hotel in the evening and then eating a huge breakfast at Boma and sitting on the balcony watching the animals until check out time - when we went "home" to our villa!

You have to pack sometime right - so just treat your last day at the original hotel as the last day of your trip - pack everything except for an overnight bag that you can carry with you and have the resorts transfer your luggage - it doesn't matter when it turns up as you have everything you need in your overnight bag. Then the final day you can just leave without having to do any packing - just put your night things away.

If you really want to get a taste of the Poly I say go for it

As a known split-stayer, I don't think a one night stay anywhere would be worth the hassle. I have done it just once, in a pinch, and swore never to do it again if at all possible. In your case, you have to be out of the old room by 11, and most likely the new room won't be ready until later in the afternoon. I gotta concur with RobinB on this one.

I'm also a known split stayer (! ) and I guess I'm against the majority vote here - I would probably stay at a different resort every night if I could! Just ask my poor husband as I drag him from check in to check in

I love to experience all the resorts and think staying at different ones makes our stays seem longer, if you know what I mean. You know that sinking checking out - now we go home feeling you get when you check out? Well, guess what - you'll get the exciting checking in again feeling ASAP if you go with me
