I just wanted to post my opinion of the movie Hotel Rwanda, with Don Cheadle. I can't say enough positive things about this movie. I know it might not be the typical multiplex-fare of a lot of posters on this board, but I would encourage you to search it out and see it. It's a good example of what filmmaking can be when it lives up to its potential. It's not only a well-made movie but an interesting look at human nature and American foreign policy. You might be more tempted to see Fat Albert (or whatever) but this might be a better choice in the long run.

Thanks for the review. I just read a very positive review of it in the paper tonight.

I don't htink our local theater is carrying it , tho.

herc.

Well, I could say quite a bit here....but won't.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, myself. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

There's also a really good Frontline special called The Triumph of Evil that talks a lot about both Rwanda and America's part in it, if you're interested. Try pbs.org.

SideshowBob posted review of it after seeing the NA premier at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.... thought a "wow"! Agree... very worth catching and may well be nominated for "Best Picture" for the Academy Awards.

Was very cool, as the actual couple portrayed in the film were introduced after the film, and all were very moved by it...

Also, SSB was lucky to meet them, as well as Nick Nolte (shook hand) after the film when getting into limos... was a cool night!

I really want to see this, as well. Glad you enjoyed it! Our dinky town won't get it, I'm sure, but we'll be sure to rent it.

And don't worry, I'd never be tempted to see Fat Albert, LOL.

I want to see this movie but I'm quite sure that it will reduce me to tears so I might wait for the DVD so I can wail in private.

I watched the Frontline special earlier this year when they showed it on PBS. I was so disgusted at our government not even mentioning the massacre after it happened. Not even trying to intervene diplomatically, just ignoring it while it occured. It was really disturbing.

I'm thinking about seeing this as well.I know Joaquin Phoenix has a small role

I'm hoping to rent this when it becomes available - we also only get 1st run movies. My Dad spent some time working in Rwanda after the massacre (he's a Dr.) and had so many heartwrenching stories to tell.

I won't either.... but I know we are thinking the same thing.
