Hotel Room Charging Limits

Does anyone know what the hotel charging limit is when using magic bands? I believe they vary by resort level, and was curious about value resorts. Is it possible to pre-pay w/ Disney gift cards when you check in?

I was told $500 at pop last month. That means once you hit $500, they charge the credit card (instead of charging everything the night before you check out). As long as it goes through, you can continue charging.
Also, you can't prepay, but you can go to the front desk anytime before the day of check out and pay off the balance with gift cards.

Yes you can “pre-pay”. I did this with a Gift Card I had received last year during check in. It just shows as a credit on your invoice, when the charges start coming through. As to wether you can add thousands in gift cards I don’t know, but they do charge your credit card for the full amount upon check in. So you account is -$6000. Than each night the night cost of you room is “debited” along with any other charges you have made.

On 2 different visits I have been unable to apply my Disney Visa Reward points to my room account on check in. I was only able to apply them to accumulated room charges after they were applied to the room account. It is fine, as long as you go to the desk the night before you check out (or any time after you have charged to your room) and apply your reward points to the balance. The charges are put through to your credit card about 2 AM on check out morning.

Most are reporting that they are no longer able to put gift cards on their account in advance. You will have to keep track of your charges and go to the front desk before you reach the charging limit of $500 at the values to use the gift cards. Also, as Hopefully said, you'll need to make your final gift card payment the night before your check out day because the computer system will charge the credit card on file very early in the morning.

Also keep in mind when you reach your limit you have to inform your resort to charge to your card on file. Otherwise they won't allow you to charge. This is what I was told. I never went over my limit as I was staying deluxe and when it reached a certain amount I went to the front desk & paid some down & told them to charge the rest. The day before I left I went down & got a print out & check it over & then paid more on it or told them to go ahead & charge. Anything else we paid out of pocket.

This is correct. Last month I stayed at POR and was not on the dining plan. I knew the limit was $1000, but after several days paying OOP for character meals, I wasn't paying as much attention to my balance as I should have. I hit the limit mid-day while shopping at HS and could not charge anything on my MagicBand. I had to stop by the front desk that night at POR to have the balance charged to my credit card. The MagicBand/room charge balance was then re-set to zero.

No, upon check in they charge my credit card. So I have a "credit" on my account. The charge is for the full amount of the room so say the room is $6,000. They charge that amount to my card. Than as the nights pass they debit my account say $700 a night for each night we have the room. Also while I'm charging items too my room (food, items) that comes off the original $6000. As soon as I reach $6000 in "debits" my card is charged again for the Deluxe $1500. Mind you this is with a room only reservation. Non DVC.

I wonder if it's different with a package. Last trip was the first time we charged back to the room. Upon arrival we had charging privileges added to the adult keys. We did not get to our max during that trip and we came home on a Tuesday. By wed morning our charged amount was deducted from our available balance and thurs it was taken out. I know they didn't hold or charge anything when we checked in. I know this because I forgot to ask and I watched my account to make sure.

I book room only trips all the time, and have never, ever had that experience. If I don't pay in full before we arrive, they charge the balance upon checking in, but usually I am paid in full so they don't charge anything. On the folio that you get, it's broken out by nightly rate and each tax listed, but they've never put the charges through for each night individually to the credit card company. It's how the folio is tallied to zero balance for accounting purposes, not how you're actually charged.


They also do not charge the resort limit ahead of time. They either charge your card when you reach the limit, which then resets, or on the last night of your stay if you don't hit the limit. So you're only charged what you actually spend, as opposed to many hotel chains that charge a certain amount up front as a hold for incidentals. Disney hotels don't even require putting a card down on your room, and if you have one down and have paid in full and don't end up charging anything back they won't charge your card at all. I've never heard of an experience like the one posted above.

Yes, they charge your balance when you check in, if you owe one. If you don't owe one, they don't charge anything. You account is at 0 once you pay, and then they charge you for anything you charge back to the room either when you hit the limit for your resort or the night before you check out.

I think we're saying the same thing. I just wanted to clarify that you're only changed what you actually owe at check in, so if you paid in full or partial, you're not charged your full cost when you check in.

I think when I posted I wanted to clarify a portion of that past post, mainly for myself. I was referring to the post where 1500 is charged to your card if you are charging to your room and staying deluxe. We usually don't charge anywhere near 1500 (unless not on the dining plan) so charging my cc 1500 before I used it would definitely keep me from spending.

I'm an international guest with one room at all star music and they let me have a $1000 charge limit, the cast member behind the desk said that it was due to the length of our stay and to prevent us getting a huge credit card bill every time we spent £350. In the end (with 2.5 days to go) we've charged $1800 but paid it all down so nothing goes on the card.

Any idea on the limit for dvc resorts?

It is $1500 and I hit it (by surprise). We had 7 of us in our partly without a dining plan and trying to do a park purchase, our Magic-bands could not complete a sale. A call to the resort had the situation explained as to what happened and an account charge done on the spot to clear though I was a little peeved such was not explained at check-in or as we approached the limit a call made.

To avoid they said we could prepay at check-in the amount over the $1500 I thought we'd spend, though I'd prefer giving authorization for the tab to be cleared at check-in rather than have to monitor my account (is this not supposed to be a reason for and benefit of the bands - charge with the PIN as desiring)? If I need to watch, monitor, pay down knowing I will exceed their predetermined limit why would I not just use my cc for in the first place.
