We are taking our first family trip to DLR this summer and I am completely overwhelmed by all the hotel choices. We need a room that sleeps 6 comfortably (no double beds!!) and we prefer two bathrooms cause we have two teen dd's :)

Also, an issue is that our dd17 will be using a wheelchair. So, we either need a place that is fairly close (pushing a wheelchair down a busy sidewalk and having to cross multiple roads is not my idea of a good time!) OR a place where we can easily catch a shuttle.

We can do two connecting rooms if there isn't a good option otherwise. There seems to be quite a few places outside the gates that sleep 6+ but I'm just not familiar with the proximity or how nice the rooms are. We aren't hotel snobs but I don't like dirty and I don't like bad beds (we don't sleep well in the value hotel beds at WDW).

Thanks for any advice!

For your needs I say one of the larger rooms at the Desert Inn & Suites (DI&S)
The sooner you book the lower the price. As your dates approach you'll see the rate go way up.

Look at the room descriptions and layout view on the website. B-1, C-1 and C-2 Will have plenty of room for you. One of them even has two bathrooms.

I've stayed in all three of these (on different trips) when I have taken all of my grandkids and NEEDED the separation as well as space.

It's one we would stay in again.

The one thing we do not like is the indoor pool.

Thank you! Can you tell me about how far we'd be walking to get to the park?

The red line is from the DI&S to the center of the Esplanade.
I have walked from the Guardians of the Galaxy in DCA to our room at DIS in not more than 15 minutes.

Hey wendow see you over on the budget board a lot. We have done the 2 & 3 berm suites at dlh & gc. They are roomy and comfortable. If the wheel chair is not motorized I’d definitely look into renting a scooter (emv) from an offsite supplier. We’ve done that lots of times for my father. He has trouble walking far at 80. They will drop it off before you get there and pick it up after you leave.

I’ll chime in another vote for the Desert Inn. It’s not luxury, but it is clean and CLOSE. They have some 2 bedroom, 2 bath suites that get the job done.

We stayed there with our whole family. It was a parade of mobility assistors each day—2 ECVs and 1 wheelchair. It seemed closer than when we stayed at DLH. That being said, GCH is fabulous, but 2 rooms there would probably cost you less than one of their suites.

I bet you will have a grand time!

In case DI&S doesn't work out, look into 2 connecting premium rooms at the Candy Cane Inn, too. We do that when we take large family groups. You'd want ground floor rooms because of the wheelchair or possible ECV. The premium rooms are the largest rooms available, have 2 queens, microwave and small refrigerator in each room, amenities basket, bathrobes, and free breakfast (generous continental) delivered to the room each morning (a huge plus when getting everyone ready in the mornings!). CCI is clean (!), has free parking and a private shuttle to the parks (runs on time and has friendly, helpful drivers). Great customer service and various discounts (ask to see if you qualify for something). Last stay, CCI saved us over $600 a night over the GCH. CCI is on the same side of Harbor as DLR and is about a 10 minute walk to the front gates, depending on the one signal and the line at bag check.

Hey, I recognize you too! Love the budget board :lovestruc

My dd17 is the one needing the wheelchair. It is not motorized because she only needs it for places like Disney, the zoo, the museum, etc. I'm not sure she's ready for a scooter. I do wonder about a motorized wheelchair though. I would think she would be able to control that. Not sure on age requirements for renting. Thanks for the idea!

Really?!?! They bring breakfast to the room? For free? That is awesome! Do they do it early enough to be able to have breakfast there, and still get to rope drop?

I wish we could afford GCH but pretty sure it's well out of our price range :crazy2:

Thank you! I think we are going to have a great time too!

Yes, breakfast delivery to the room is included in the price of the premium rooms. We love that perk! And if you want more things or refills, you are welcome to help yourself down at the buffet in the breakfast room by the pool. They give you a wide selection of delivery times to choose from. (And they always delivered on time.) We never made rope drop (grandparents don't move that quickly these days!), but I seem to remember that the earliest time slots were pretty early. Contact the CCI to ask about this. The staff is super friendly and helpful!

Another vote for Dessert Inn & Suites. We were upgraded to the Family Suite with 2 full bathrooms from the family suite with 1.5 bathrooms. We enjoyed our stay and had Vons deliver some snack items. We made sandwiches for a few lunches and packed snacks to keep costs down.

The hotel staff was great when they found out I had been taken to the hospital from the park (my mom had left and taken my nieces back to the hotel) I was going on one ride but someone was smoking by the lockers and I ended up having an asthma attack. I guess someone from Disney called the hotel to let my mom know where I was. The staff came up and gave my nieces some ice tea mix and some other stuff (can't remember now what else). We gave them a bunch of paper towels-free with our Vons order.

Breakfast was decent at the hotel. Denny's and Ihop are on either side. We found the coffee at the hotel terrible, but Denny's had good coffee at a decent price. Ihop was ridiculous priced-wait and go to Starbucks as you could get a fancy coffee for the same price Ihop charges for a large coffee.

How far is the walk from here?
It is near the corner of Harbor and Katella. We are not as athletic as some! We usually park in the Toy Story parking lot! We love that hotel though. It's a perfect fit for us.
