Hi,
We are staying a week at the CCI but have an early flight out on our departure morning, 6:30am. Thinking that maybe we should stay at or near LAX that last night.
Any recommendations on a good place?

Hi,

I always like the Hilton LAX ( close to the airport and the Marriott). The 2 embassy suites and the Hilton Garden Inn El segundo are a little further out but have their own free shuttles to LAX

I stayed at the Hilton LAX last month after D23, it was close and had an airport shuttle. I used Hilton points and was glad to have a good nights sleep rather than taking a red eye after D23.

We like the Sheraton Gateway. There is a full Starbucks (not a kiosk) in the lobby so we can grab something quick before taking the shuttle.

The Westin is my go to near LAX. Be careful though...I would stick to to the strip where the Westin and Marriott are...there is a Holiday Inn Express and other mid range hotels that are in absolute dive neighborhoods. The area around LAX can be pretty crappy of you get off the min thoroughfares.

If you are doing a rental car, stay at a property with an airport shuttle and return the car the night before so you do not have to deal with it in the AM. All the rental locations are off site.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza LAX - free shuttle, close - I would recommend it. Has no breakfast, but you'll probably be up and out too early for that.

Hmmm, a lot of you mention a free shuttle to the airport. Is that an important thing? We are renting a car so I initially thought we'd just return it that morning. Is the car rental return something we are better off doing the night before?
It's our first time to LA so we know nothing about logistics. All advice is welcome.

Most of the hotels near LAX charge for parking, which is another reason to return the car the night before. Some hotels are closer to the car rental returns than others.
Most LAX hotels have shuttles to the airport, although most are shared with other hotels to "reduce" congestion.
Many of the hotels near LAX have 2 doubles or a king bed. If you prefer 2 queens, make sure that is an option at the hotel you choose.
There really are a lot of decent -- but no amazing -- choices if you stick to the area closest to the airport. -- Suzanne

Not important but more of a convenience. One less thing to worry about and leave more time for in the early AM. If the hotel has a free shuttle, they will drop you right at the gate rather than loading you bags in the car, unloading them at the rental place, loading them on a shuttle and leaving buffer time for each portion of the car return and rental shuttle...just a lot less movements.

LAX is a nightmare for traffic. The airport is a horse shoe shape with a one way traffic system. Terminal one is the start, the international terminal is at the middle and terminal 6 at the end. In addition, the car hire lots are located away from the horse shoe complex, so you will need to get a shuttle bus BACK to the terminal complex.

Far better to return the car the night before, get a shuttle back to the main terminal complex and then the hotel shuttle to pick you up. That way your departure day, you just get the hotel shuttle back to the terminal complex, and go straight to check in. Eliminate the traffic and extra transit time on the day of departure :)

Just in case someone sees this later, LAX has 9 terminals (1-8 & International, though international flights leave from others too). Terminals 7&8 are at the end of the loop. I didn't want anyone flying United to worry that there were only 6 and they had to go elsewhere.

There's a road work project happening right now, with a warning that shuttles can be delayed up to 30 minutes both ways. Instead of taking the rental car shuttle, you should look for a hotel within walking distance of your rental agency. The hotels on Century are all pretty equal, and with an early flight it sounds like you won't be in the room for long anyway. I wouldn't want to add the extra step of taking the rental car shuttle back to the airport, then taking another shuttle to the hotel when many rental agencies are right next to hotels. I especially wouldn't want to do it with the uncertain traffic delays happening right now.
