Hotel recommendation I-24 btwn Mt Vernon and Metropolis IL

In May, driving with 2 older grandchildren. Planning to check out Superman museum and statue in Metropolis, so we'd like to stay within 1 hr. We're interested in a clean hotel with comfy beds. Have you stayed somewhere in that area that you would recommend?

We usually stay at Choice hotels when driving. We've stayed in Metropolis at Quality Inn which was clean and safe but a bit older. About 50 miles North in Marion is Comfort Inn which was a step up from Quality Inn.

When is the last time that you stayed at these hotels? I'm wondering if it was recently. They're somewhat comparable in price, but the Quality Inn has a larger room available, which would be nice. I checked out both on Tripadvisor, and the one in Metropolis has some negative reviews concerning roaches, as well as the condition of the rooms, maintenance, etc. However, the reviews on Tripadvisor are not always a true reflection of the properties. I trust the advice I receive here on the Dis, so I'm wondering if I should believe the negative reviews I read. Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay. The metropolis stay was three years ago. We stayed in Marion a little over a year ago. Marion is the better of the two.

I would believe TripAdvisor reviews over those on a niche message board for a vacation destination located nowhere near your hotel.
