Hotel Recommendation for Clearwater Beach....

I am looking for an affordable hotel in Clearwater for Easter weekend. I have looked at many options on Orbitz, etc, but some of the reviews have made me nervous.

I hope to gain some advice from DISers that have actually been there.

I would like to be as close to the beach as possible. Perhaps within walking distance to the Pier & its entertainment, but not absolutely necessary. I really don't want to spend more than $200 per night either. I am looking for something decent as we will probably not be in the room much except for sleeping, but I do not want a dirty, run-down establishment either.

Are there places anyone can recommend or do I need to change my standard? Or should I look further down the beach towards St. Pete?????

Since this is very high season, you might want to broaden your seach a bit. We stayed in a timeshare at Indian Rocks Beach and it was a very nice beach.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree on Clearwater Beach a few years ago and loved it! They are located on the far end of the beach but within walking distance to the pier, shops, etc. They also have a great kids program. Beautiful sunsets from the balcony too!
