I need a hotel for 3 nights in Oct close to Times Square. Taking DD16 on a short theatre trip. Any recommendations?

Hey there!

Just a word of caution....anything around Times Square is going to cost a pretty penny. That said, I've stayed at The Hilton Times Square and The Marriott Marquis. They both excellent hotels!! I've stayed at the Hilton many times. It's right above Maddam Teausaud's (sp?) wax museum and about a half a block from the Port Authority bus station. Times Square is also about a block away. Nice ammenities and what have you. I stayed at the Marriot Marquis for the first time this past March. It's my new favorite hotel in NYC!! LOL! The service was tremendous! We had a concierge room overlooking Times Square. Literally. The hotel is across the street from Planet Hollywood and Toys 'R Us. And the beds.....what can I say about the beds? One word....HEAVEN! If I hadn't had tickets to WrestleMania XX, I would have spent the whole weekend in bed! LOL!

So, if you're looking for a beautiful hotel that isn't *too* expensive (for NYC anyway), I would go with the Hilton. The offer a nice "Bounceback" package that includes breakfast, etc. If you're willing to spend a little more, stay at the Marriott! You can find out about both hotels by searching their respective sites. www.hilton.com and www.marriott.com

Have a Great Time!!

I would recommend bidding for a hotel on www.Priceline.com - bid on a
FOUR STAR Hotel in the MIDTOWN WEST region.
That is what I did and I got the MARRIOTT MARQUIS (which is right in the heart of Times Square) for only $110 per night. This hotel is normally $200 - $300 per night.

I would highly recommend this site www.biddingfortravel.com to educate myself about how to go about placing a bid on Priceline.

It looks like people have been getting a 4 star hotel in the midtown West region for about $100 - $110 per night (from what I can see on the biddingfortravel website).

Good luck to you! :)

The Rennessance Hotel on 7th Avenue is fantastic--great staff, great rooms, nicest and roomiest bathrooms I've ever had in a hotel.

I've also stayed at the Hilton Times Square. It's only a couple of years old. It's very funky. Great hotel.

The Marriott Marquis is nice as well. The one thing I didn't like about the Marquis is the elevators always seem to be crowded even though there are about 10 or 12 of them. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for an elevator.

The Doubletree Guest Suites is awesome. You'd get a two room suite with two TV's, three telephones, a fridge, and a microwave.

The New York Hilton and Towers on Sixth Avenue is fantastic, too. Very convient. Sometimes they offer rates as low as $149 online.

As pw2pp said, you may want to try Priceline as well. I got a room at the Shearaton New York Towers for $120 for two weeks form now. I believe I chose the mid-town central area to get that hotel.

We just returned from the Comfort Inn on W.46th Street, just steps away from Times Square. It's clean and convenient and we got a AAA rate of $134.10 per night for 4 people. Parking was 5 doors down at a rate of $20. per 24 hours with hotel validation. Location was perfect for theatre, just a couple streets down.

I like the Hotel Edison for price and location. Just a block north of the Marriot Marquis, but off of Times Square (which I think is nice- it can be sooo crowded). The Polish Tea Room is also attached- great prices for good diner-like food.

If you are going to theatre, remember that there are many ways to get discounted tickets. I was just in NY 2 weeks ago, and went to the lottery drawing for Wicked (2 hours prior to show time). My name was pulled, and I got a $25 ticket and sat in the front row! It was an amazing show- I fully recommend to all families.
