Hotel Percentage Discounts - Pin Only?

I am wondering about those of y'all who are getting 10, 15, 20 and so on % off of room rates. How are you coming about that? Is it only with a pin code? Or does Disney offer, during a certain time of the year (much like free dining), a percentage off of rooms? Meaning, could I, Joe Blow, call up Disney say in April, and get 30% off of a room?

Yes, at various times they offer room only discounts to the general public which are what you are talking about. You could only get that deal if it was being offered for your dates, at the resort you want, and you book it within the timeframe stipulated in the offer.

Thank you so much for the response! Can you tell me how these stipulations differ from that of a pin code's? Or do they?

Also, do you know how they determine how much you are able to recieve off of your room? For example, is it, like 10% off Value, 20% off Moderate and 30% off Deluxe? Or is it completely random?

Pin code offers vary. Sometimes they are different rates at different resorts and sometimes they are for free dining instead of % off room rate.
The last one I received was by snail mail and this is the offer:

Stay with us in July and Save 30% Book by 3/5/12
Examples given were for standard rooms for stays most nights Sunday-Thursday nights:
Values $94. per night
Moderate $137. per night
Deluxe $193. per night (Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge)

(I booked a 2Bedroom Villa for 6 nights at BoardWalk Villas for a savings of almost $1,300.)

To answer some of the questions above, the GP offers are as you described - normally something like 20% off value, 25% off moderates, 30% off deluxes and DVC. Sometimes some resorts are excluded entirely, or some rooms (family suites for example).

When/what they offer is all dependent on their bookings. If rooms are filling without discounts, they won't offer any.

Peak holiday times don't usually have discounts - so don't look for them for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July.

As to how they differ from PIN codes - well PIN codes are for a particular named individual, where as GP discounts can be used by anyone. When they are being offered, you can find GP discount offers right on the Disney site - under Special Offers on the home page.
