hotel over-booking question....

i looked on the hotels main web site = no availablity (going pres week)
now i looked up the hotels actual web site (in orlando)= there is availabilty
looked up several web companies such as expidia, book it etc=there is availabilty.

now i call the actual hotel ( in orlando) and they say they are totally booked, but book
on our web site anyway because we will send you to another hotel :eek: .
what is up with this? they said they will not charge my charge card for the nights that they over-booked us. he also told me that one of the nights i wanted they are over booked by 10!!
has this happened to anyone?

Yes very normal just like Airlines overbook .They know they will have last minute cancells and no shows .Also the Travel sights have Blocks resevered that why they will show Avail. and the Hotel will be at full ,When it gets closer to the dates the Travel sights release those rooms back to the Hotel.
 
I think the ratio is that a hotel consider 80% capicity to be overbooked.
 

so if they over-book me they said they would send me to another hotel,
is this hotel equal in value and would the area be the same? i just couldn't see coming off my flight 11:30 at night and to be told sorry you have to go to another hotel 15 miles away this would just be my luck :scratchin

I would ask what hotels they use in the case of overbooking. I know some people from the Holiday Inn in DTD that overbooked were sent to the Sheraton Safari-- not sure how that worked out since they aren't even owned by the same parent company. However, that's what they were reporting.

All hotels will overbook to stay at full capacity. This is just a fact of the industry. You will find no availability on their website, but availability on say Expedia.com because they have allotted a certain amounts of rooms to these companies under contract. Hotels will overbook their own allotment hoping that the contracted companies won't sell all the rooms they have. Hotels will move their own customers before they would Expedia's, Travelocity's etc.
 
This never happened to us in Disney but it happened in Bar Harbor Maine.We did get sent to a nicer resort so it ultimately worked out to be better but we were not happy after the long drive.Why do hotels take a deposit if they dont plan to hold your room?

bumping this up because it is a couple of weeks away from my trip,
should i call them and ask them about if i was to be bumped from this
hotel where would they put me? or should we just go there the day of
arrival and then find out? btw this hotel still has no availablity
until 3 days into my trip.

We were told in IL that if you choose to spend another night at the hotel they can not turn you away!

I would expect a hotel upgrade if they make you move - my friend complains enough that she gets free stays for future use in addition to free nights on current reservation!

i wish i was that way to complain to get more, but i am kind of shy
