Hi all,

I've JUST heard that the HNY has stopped doing hot breakfasts?! Is this true?!

where did you hear/read about it?

I wouldn't be surprised by this. The price to stay in the HNY has become cheaper (in relative terms) for some time now. Some of this was explained when it was announced that ESC would no longer benefit from VIP FP. I had priced up, purely for research lol, a suite in the ESC for this May half term and it was only a few £ more than staying in SQL GF! I really couldn't understand it, then I read about the FPs and I understood!

I'm not sure what their long term game plan is with the HNY. It appears to me that the NPB seems to be taking over in the luxury category - read somewhere that they are applying to upgrade the hotel to a 4 star - this would then compete head to head with HNY. But if they continue to remove facilities at the HNY might it be downgraded? I'd love to know their strategic thinking over this.

On Twitter last night - via a podcast by @FuseMP where someone told him, and then people corroborated it on Twitter.

I also saw somewhere (sorry, I can't remember where!! lol) that the NPB would be including hot items this Spring/March? So that would tie in with what you're suggesting!

Do you know if both regular/ESC breakfast are affected by this?

It is kind of sad for everyone who enjoyed the hotel at its full glory to see what happened to it. Kind of remind me of the hotel of the Tower of Terror…

cwis - as it mentions no hot breakfasts I presume it means regular, standard room guests. I would think ESC will remain like other 'club' levels at the other hotels - you get limited hot items as this is a 'perk' of staying at that level. But that's just a guess - ESC is still more expensive to stay in than standard so they have to provide somethings that are extra - hot breakfast items being one. But of course that's not a perk if they offer it at standard breakfast!

Interestingly, I've just read elsewhere that NPB now has it's own bag check area. Has this always been the case or did guests their use the one over by HNY by Village entrance? I don't know, the poster said they thought it was a new addition and it actually meant that at busy times, NPB guests were getting into the Village quicker than other guests as the HNY bag check obviously serves a number of hotels at that end and was much busier.

If this is true and it is new, it really does make me wonder what the longer term plans are for HNY and NPB. Of course, I guess some of it could be attributed to the recent terrorist atrocities too but NPB having these extra facilities all back up the application for higher star rating.

I have never been that keen on the look of HNY and only once booked to stay there but then changed to the DLH at the last moment. I know some people love it, and although I've never stayed there, I can see the attraction of the NPB hotel over the HNY. Only difference being I'd say, is the HNY is marginally closer - the bag check situation above may make a difference though. Having said all that, people like and can afford different things - hence they they cater for all sorts!

Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Update - just spoken to the Head Concierge at HNY (don't ask how.... long story!! lol) and he has confirmed it's a rumour, and hot breakfasts still occur!! Phew!

I just spoke with our travel agent who has advised me that they have been told that Disneyland Hotel will not be changing it will be supplying hot breakfasts as standard, and that HNY will be supplying them for the Empire Club Leve only , and NPB will be supplying them at Compass Club Level, they havent been given a date when this will come into effect for the HNY but it has always been the case for NPB club level only - she suspects that it will be from September but hasnt been given an absolute.

I think with regards to the bag check area its to do with the direction you come from the NYP is accessed from a different direction than the HNY, and you have to walk past the HNY when walking from the Santa Fe and the Cheyanne so maybe that has something to do with it?

Interesting - as usual DLRP are giving out different information :rolleyes1. I expect there'll be an announcement from DLRP when they are ready, which is often weeks/days after the rumour starts :rolleyes1.

Regarding the bag check - I am unsure as never stayed there, but I got the impression that before NPB guests used to have to use the main bag check area but don't now. As I said, I could be totally wrong and it may have been something in place for some time or since the terror attacks.

Regardless, it seems they are bolstering up the NPB to increase its star rating which often means one thing - prices go up :p.

As far as I remember the bag check on the way to NBC has been there just as long as the bag check by Hotel New York.

there was definitely second bag check nearer NBC for years (are we talking abut the one talking you next to mcdonalds? I hope)

re hot breakfast I really hope it will be still in June as if I know its not anymore we would book SQL for less...

The bag check has been there since they closed the path between Disney Village and the parks.

What changed recently is that they are now enforcing security way much more since the latest terrorist attacks. Bags are thoughtfully scanned, and after the bag checks, people are scanned one by one, with their belongings on a plate (just like at the airports).

Obviously, this create some delays entering the secured area. The entrance of the NPBC, being used by one hotel only, is significantly less crowded that the one of the NYH+SQL+SF+Cheyenne.

I've seen people waiting in line until the middle of Lake Disney a few weeks ago, where all the measures enforced today were not yet being applied…

If I were to go DLP, I would definitively consider the DLH to make moving around easier.

the hot breakfast was one of the reasons we have booked to stay there in December.
Start a cold winters day with a nice warm breakfast we thought.
what a shame if its true :-(
