Hi,

We will be taking the auto train and are driving from MA to MD (or suburb of DC) the night before the train leaves. We would like to do a very mini tour of DC the morning of our trip. Does anyone have any suggestions for a safe place to stay. We will need a suite type hotel (there are 6 of us). We were thinking of staying at the Quality Suites in Rockville, MD. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Not sure where the Quality Suites is, but we have done the exact same thing you would like to do and stayed at the Holiday Inn - Eisenhower. It is right off of I-95 just south of Alexandria. What I though was great about this hotel was it was right off of I-95 and there is a Metro Stop (Eisenhower) right across the street. We arrived in the early afternoon, parked the car and hopped on the Metro into DC and toured all day. Next morning, we toured Alexandria and it was about 20-25 minutes to the AutoTrain station.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Embassy Suites in Alexandria is right across the street from the King St. Metro Station and just north of Lorton.

Highly recommend - very nice accommodations with free buffet/cooked to order breakfast every morning and free cocktails every evening.
