Hi Everyone

I have just enquired what our hotel check in time is for when we arrive in Jan 2018 as we have a 14hr flight ahead of us & will be arriving at LAX at 6am & would like to check in asap as we also have the 3 kids with us the youngest being a 1yr old. I am going to want to shower & change her as soon as i can once we arrive.
I was tole that our check in time is 4pm  That seems a bit late to me, i was wondering what everyone elses check in times were???

TIA

Standard check in times are usually around 3pm or 4pm. But you can request an early check in time with your hotel. Call/email the front desk and tell them your situation. If a room is available the night before you arrive, the hotel will save it for you so that you can check in when you get there. Sometimes there is a fee for this, but usually not if the room would be vacant anyway before you got there. Just call/email to ask. You shouldn't have any problems.

ETA: We've done this many times. Always call well in advance, then re-confirm the day before arrival.

3p and 4p are standard checkin times for most hotels.

Best strategy is to call the day before arrival during the daytime business hours and speak to the front desk. Let them know you will be making an early arrival and while you understand noting is guaranteed, any help is appreciated of the room might be available.

Being gracious without expectations goes a long way.

Most every hotel will allow you to check in early and they will store your bags...but room not getting room access guaranteed till 3 or 4 pm is standard.

That's normal, make an early check in request but keep in mind the only way to make sure you have a room at arrival is to pay for the night before and make sure it's noted on the reservation.

I've had hotels be VERY strict about check-in time, so much so that they literally would not give me a key until 4 p.m. on the nose.

I have contacted the hotel & have booked one night in advance to our stay to ensure we can freshen up as soon as possible...

I just thought 4pm check in sounded a little late.
Here in Australia any time between 12pm - 2pm is standard check in time in most places.

I would still contact them the day before and remind them of your arrival time again. With may hotels, if you are not there by midnight it is considered a no show and the system may cancel your entire reservation...had it happen.

Good idea to book an extra day. That's what we do if our departure is later than the 12 pm check out.

But as others have said-3/4 is typical check in. I have an air bnb and it is just barely enough time to get the room changed over if they leave at noon.

This is standard. Remember, they cannot start cleaning the room til the prior guest has departed. So, if they check out at 11, it will take an hour at least to clean the room. Add to this, the can't do all the rooms at once, so they say 3pm. You may be able to check in earlier, but only if the rooms turned faster than expected.

One way around this is to book the room for the night before also. Then call and explain you will be arriving in the early AM. The room will be waiting for you.

Never had a problem, but I call and let them know my arrival time.

Another option is get there early, check in, have them store luggage except a "day bag" that you have with toiletries and change of clothes. After checking in, ask to use the pool area(which you should already have if you got checked in and room keys). Some nicer hotels have showers in the restrooms near the pool area. Some hotels have childcare, "kid zones" etc. you didn't specify if you are staying on resort?

I agree with reminding the front desk the day before that you will be there at 6am on XX day and that's why you've reserved a room for the night before. Maybe even pre-pay to guarantee it.
