This will be my second trip to IOA and I need to know WHAT Hotel is off-site, but closest to IOA/Universal and does NOT cost an arm and leg? (just a toe or finger).:o Is Major Blvd the Closest to the Parks? Thanks!;)

I just stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites on Vineland Rd, it was maybe a mile away from the entrance to Universal (the entrance off of Kirkman Rd). It was very clean, decent sized bathroom, 2 double beds regular sized room & I paid only $49 Saturday night (1/4/03). I called them & asked them for their cheapest rate. The also have a free continental breakfast (muffins, danish, bagles, english muffins, waffles, cereal, fruit & juice). Complimentary coffee maker, iron, ironing board & hair dryer in the room. Property is about 1 & 1/2 yrs old.

This was a great location, there is a Wallgreens (drugstore), Burger King, Ponderosa, TGI Fridays & a Bargain World (gift shop) across the parking lot, maybe 250-500 feet walk

Major is close, so are Kirkman and Vineland. If you're a gambler you can try Priceline because all of the hotels in the USF area 2 1/2 stars and up are really nice hotels and can be had for $25 - 70 a night.

I just stayed at the Wellesley Inns and Suites that's on John Young and Sand Lake and a good 5 min drive to USF. I got it last minute for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day for $30 a night. It is a very nice hotel with junior suites and a free breakfast every morning. I would recommend it to anyone!

was there a shuttle bus to and from universal at the Fairfield?

Since you're from Miami, I assume you're driving up.
Across the street from the parking garage within waking distance are the Holiday Inn and Radisson located on Kirkman Road. The place I stay that's rock bottom pricing is the www.hojo.com located at 7050 S Kirkman Rd, 5 minutes away. Stayed there many times and didn't have any problems. Major Blvd is across the street from the parking garages. Besides the Holday Inn and Radisson, the other hotels are older and not worth it, like the Delta resort.
Kirkman Road is the one you're looking for. You can also check any hotel chain on International Drive. Have one browser window open to the hotel chain, and the other on maps.yahoo.com so you can see how close they are.

As far as driving, I DO NOT drive, but my friends from Daytona will be going, so they can drive. I just want to make it easy on them.;) Thanks for the suggestions!:D

I drove & have AP's with free parking so I didnt use the shuttle but noticed a shuttle schedule at the front desk, you had to walk over to the Radisson (not that far maybe 500 feet walk) to take it, it didnt list fees so I'm not sure if you had to pay for it. Sorry I couldnt be of further help
