Hi. I am thinking of planning an overnight trip to NYC in the spring with the kids. I was wondering if anyone knew of a nice hotel that I could get at a good price. Any experience. We would like to stay in the time square area (which I'm sure isn't a cheap decision). We live pretty close (2- 2 1/2 hrs away) but would like to make it a 2 day trip. It would be the 4 of us (Me, DH, kids age 3 and almost 7.

Thanks!!

Our favorite is the Marriott Courtyard Manhattan Midtown East. It is not in Times Square, but is withing walking distance. I believe it is on 3rd Ave or something.

Anyway...we have stayed here several times as a family of five and have always found very reasonable rates. The rooms are huge by NYC standards.

Last June we paid $140 a night and this coming April I'm paying $160 a night with a AAA rate. If you are a Rewards member, you can also try code M11 for lower rates. To join is free.

The rooms have 2 queens and a double sofa bed. They also gave us a mini-fridge for no charge.

Check out the reviews for this on tripadvisor.

Hope this helps!

Have a great time!

Doubletree Guest Suites is a nice hotel and being a suite would give you extra space for the 2 kids. Right in Times Square. Not sure of rate though; check around.

I second doubletree guest suites...look online sometimes you can get great deals.

I second the Marriott Courtyard Manhattan Midtown East. We stayed there in October with our 3 kids (7,5,2) and the rooms were so much bigger than I ever expected. I think we paid $179/night in advance on Hotels.com and then stayed an extra night once we were there and I think that ran us somewhere around $279-$329 range (can't remember exactly).
Except for our 2yo - our kids walked everywhere both days - to Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, etc and had no problem whatsoever. It was my 5 yo dd favorite trip to date - and that includes numerous trips to Disney and the beach - she absolutely loved it. Have a great time!!!

How do you book the Marriott Courtyard Manhattan Midtown East for 5 people?
Every time I have checked out the website it tells me there are no rooms available for 5.
Do you call to make a reservation? Thanks for any help!

Our 5th person was a 2 yo so he doesn't count on the reservation. That is how we had 5 people in our room.

I second this , thats where i stay on work travel, nice place. Very big rooms for NYC.

I have stayed in the Holiday Inn Midtown I believe it was on 57th. It's been a few years ago. It was a nice hotel with a pool on the 10th floor and parking. It was a nice hotel. Just down the street from Hard Rock and a block and a half from Central Park.

We enjoy and always stay at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers which is a few blocks up from Times Square. They accept one night reservations as well. Some you must stay at least two nights. We go twice a year. Once in June mid to end and week before Thanksgiving. Enjoy your stay where ever it may be.

I also recommend the Doubletree in Times Square. We just stayed there for 2 nights after Christmas and it was very clean and nice. There is a separate bedroom with 2 queen beds and a small living room with a pull out couch.

Priceline!! I always use it for NYC and, as a budget traveler who is not used to frills, I have always been thrilled to stay in a 4* in midtown for a little over $100. Check out betterbidding.com, awesome site.

I just booked a night for my daughter and I. We are going to a concert Feb 12th and wanted to say the night. I got the Hilton Garden Inn on West 35 St. for $157 total for 2 double beds. Trip advisor gave it great reviews. (#22 of over 400 hotels)
It is near the Empire State building.
I'll let you know how it is!

We stay at the Hampton Inn NORTH AT 8TH AND 51ST. iT had a free buffet breakfast. That alone savedmoney. It was a short walk to Radio city music hall. It also had queen size beds.

I'm a business traveler to NYC - so I've stayed in at least 1/3 of the hotels in midtown (going back Wed!). In terms of larger, family sized rooms, the person who posted about the Holiday Inn on 57th had a good suggestion - the rooms are very large in NYC standards, and generally...pretty inexpensive. For instance, right now on hotels.com it was running about $89/night for that hotel.

I have stayed at the NY Helmsley several times. It is on 42 about three blocks from Grand Central Station and 10 minute walk to Time Square. Have a great time. My daughter and I are going to be in NYC for two weeks this summer, she is attending a Joffrey Ballet workshop.

I was looking at this hotel for my DH birthday, how did you like the hotel? Was it close to everything?

We are staying at the Hampton Inn Times Square North for Spring Break. It has really great reviews on Trip Advisor. 2 Queen beds and free breakfast sold me. I had our 5 nights booked at $189-$229 a night and was willing to pay that. I kept checking back and caught it for $129 a night for each of the 5 nights. (Just on the Hampton site) Keep checking rates on whatever you decide.

We love Radio City Apartments. Steps to Rockefeller Ctr, Times Sq, and the subway. These are apartments, two beds, living room with sleep sofa, full kitchen and a nice bathroom. Very clean, very highly rated on Trip Advisor.
