Hotel I booked not opening on time help me choose between two replacements

I've stayed at the Embassy Suites South and it is a very nice hotel, and we had fireworks view. I didn't enjoy it because of the elevators and the distance. I'm a walk and be there for rope drop kinda girl. The breakfast looked great but we never ate it. They didn't serve it early enough for us to get to the parks on time for opening, this was around Thanksgiving.

I can say we had an excellent Thanksgiving night dinner there. It was nothing fancy, just really good food.

Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for everyone's help. I did end up booking the Anaheim Wyndham Garden Grove. It has a dedicated shuttle which was nice. The Location isn't as close as what I had originally booked but once that got canceled it basically opened up a lot of properties that I would end up having to take a shuttle to anyways. I have a soft spot for embassy suites as I remember staying at them during Disney trips as a kid. We wouldn't be able to take advantage of the breakfast at least 1 day because of a character breakfast and we would hardly be at the hotel for the reception so it was hard to justify the price.

We stay at the Wyndham frequently. Thumbs up here. The rooms and lobby are nice as is the pool area. And the staff too! The shuttle is awesome. It runs on the half hour and only take approx. 15 min to get/to from the park (it's the traffic lights that slows things down.) With the several restaurants right there plus a Target across the street, it's a good choice for a 5 night stay. Definitely better than the location they were moving you to imho. Enjoy your trip!

I have a soft spot for ES too so, I understand how you feel.

Thanks for sharing your experience about staying at Wyndham. My first stay will be 10/23 & I booked this hotel for 3/30/16 as well so, this is good to hear from another Disser. I read reviews on Trip advisor & they looked good plus the deal on getawaytoday was too good to pass up.

Hi, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. We've never had a bad experience there. One thing about the shuttle if you plan to rope drop. If DL is peak, then the hotel will have its own shuttle. If not, they'll share with Marriott Comfort Suites/Sheraton which I suspect will be the case when you are there. They pick up at Marriott Comfort first. The shuttle will start running 1 hour before DL opening and leave again 30 minutes before opening. But if the shuttle gets full, they have to bring around another shuttle and that causes a delay. This seems to happen with the shuttle running 30 min before opening which puts a squeeze on rope drop. We've learned to grab the shuttle 1 hour before ropedrop because you just never know when the other pre-opening one will be full. We've never had a delay with the first shuttle nor at any other time of day. It's just that one shuttle with everyone trying to make ropedrop.

Your 3/30 trip may be peak though so I would ask if they are sharing the shuttle then and decide which one to take if ropedropping. If they are sharing I would 100% get the first shuttle.

Thanks for letting me know. For the 10/23 trip I know we won't be doing rope drop we just get there around 9 or 10 but not sure about the 3/30 cuz we're going with my cousin & they get up earlier than we do. And yeah that's peek time cuz it's spring break.

I cam totally empathize with you. We are booked at the same Holiday Inn express, our dates are mid-October, and I have no idea if they'll be open in time for our reservations either! I am not very pleased with the situation right now. If I had known at the time of my reservation that this was going to be am issue, I would have made a reservation at the Marriott Courtyard right next door. Now it's too late because they are totally booked. I did make a back up reservation at Marriott Springhill Suites Convention Center. We stayed there last December and it's walkable (bit of a stretch at the end of the day, but doable), but it will be about $200 more than our original reservation at HI.

It's disappointing that they are not offering you any compensation for the inconvenience. All I can say is keep being vocal, post on their Facebook wall, etc...squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I thought that you guys might get a laugh out of the fact that the yet to open Holiday Inn Express has now pulled their Facebook page. It looks like things really aren't going well for them at all. I wonder if there is some story behind all this because their website now claims their opening date will be January 8, 2016.

I'm so glad I cancelled my reservation.

Despite all this, I hope everyone's trips go off without a hitch. Last minute hotel switches are a nightmare.

January 8 now? Wow. Glad I didn't book for my January 8 trip. Don't want to be there opening day or run into another issue. So annoying!

Yeah I think everything is going to work out well. I appreciate all the support I received from everyone here. While I really am upset with the property I don't wish ILL will on them for the single fact that it is going to affect others vacations. It wouldn't have been so bad if IHG didn't have such a lackluster response to the whole situation. I was finally contacted by a higher up beyond the manager I spoke with and he conceded that all my points(reasons why compensation provided was not adequate) were valid and offered me further compensation above what I was originally offered. If that had been the response to begin with I might have been happy and settled at that but instead I told him that I will be staying with another companies hotel.
