Hotel Help!

Hi all!

Just starting to plan ahead for next year as we should be able to book our flights this week, and just wanted a little hotel help. I'm looking for a hotel that we can walk to Disneyland from and have seen the Candy Cane Inn and HoJo mentioned a lot - do they both have parking do you know, as we will have a car with us. have I missed another hotel off that I should consider?

Also, is it usually better to book direct with the hotel or does somewhere like Dreams Unlimited have better prices - have never booked DIY before, we usually go through a travel agent, so its all a bit new to us!

Alternately if I was to fele like a splurge, which is the cheapest of the Disney on-site hotels? Do they have any perks like the hotels in WDW do?

Sorry, one more question whilst I'm on here - we will probably have 4 days in Anaheim - is mid-week more likely to be quieter than over the weekend?

The Tropicana or the Del Sol are right across the street, and are nice as well. Plenty of parking when I have stayed there.

I suggest a review of the stickies for some good advice - especially the Aussie planning link (I realize you are probably not from Australia, but many of the threads address non-US resident issues!

Hojo's has free parking. Not sure about Candy Cane. The on-site resorts offer early entry on each day the park offers that option, and also have a lot of great Disney ambience. The Disney website is actually a good resource for great "deals" including room and tickets, which sometimes is more economical than the motels across the street!

Some of the walking distance hotels and motels are older or somewhat run-down, so read several reviews before deciding on one of the less mentioned ones.

Also - Paradise Pier is the least expensive of the resorts, we usually stay there or at HoJo's and both are GREAT.

I should have somehow kept your whole post open! I keep missing questions.

Mid week is almost always less busy - depends on time of year, too. If it is summer, mid-week would be my choice, but the rest of the year, if you want evening events, such as fireworks, they are often limited to the weekends.

If you read posts by Hydroguy (you can search for his posts with the search button), he has information on almost all park related questions and his info has been very reliable for us. I have been going to DL since 1961.

One tip: You can go to Google maps and see the satelite view of the area around DLR. You can see what the hotels and parking lots look like and how close they are to the parks. We'll be trying out CCI this trip. I believe they have free parking. They also offer a breakfast and a free shuttle.

Candy Cane Inn has free parking for guests. It's a seven minute walk to the entrances. The only real perk of staying on Disneyland property is the extra Magic Hour. There isn't a dining plan to speak of, and transportation isn't necessary.

I can understand your hesitation about booking directly with the airlines, hotels, etc. But for my current trip to DL in Oct, by watching out for seat sales, etc, saved $300CDN on my flight, $375USD on my hotel, as I'm planning on picking up a Premium AP just before I leave, and HOJO's honors the AP rate so long as you have an e-ticket to show them when to arrive, and can show them the actual AP when checking out. I've also booked my transportation, and my MHP also buy either purchasing them online, or calling the companies directly when deciding to book. I've reached the point that unless I'm travellng overseas, I won't use a travel agent. I saved over $600 by booking direct. Depending if a large pool is your cup of tea, then HOJO's is the place to go. CCI is also an excellent hotel, and you can't go wrong with either hote. HOJO's offers a 15% discount for DIS members, and if you call their number and ask for in house reservations, they will give you the discount, and send you confirmation via email. HOJO's doesn't have a free breakfast, but they do have a small, but very stacked gift shop with a grocery area filled with breakfast items. So if you are not a big brekki eater, then you can grab a snack on the way to the parks and eat a bigger lunch once you are in the parks. HOJO's parking is also free, and is a 7 to 10 min walk to the parks. If you cross the street at Manchester, and walk along the Disney side of the street, you can avoid alot of the crowds heading to DL. Hope that this helps you out.

We always book flights and hotels at Orbitz.com. We've used expedia.com a few times too. You can also get Disney park tickets there as well.

I just booked the Anaheim Plaza on orbitz.com (for 6 nights this fall) and it was only $50 a night.

Both HOJOs and Candy Cane have free parking. You can even stay parked for the day after you check out so you can enjoy some more time in the park.

Candy Cane also has a dedicated exclusive shuttle to and from the park which can be very nice after a long day of walking.

HOJOs offers an Entertainment Book discount which you can only get by calling in-house reservations at HOJOS Anaheim. You cannot get this rate through HOJOs main sight or throught someplace like Orbitz. Candy Cane offers AAA rates that are about 10% off rack rate and also give discounts for returning visits.

I have stayed at CCI and love it ! The rooms are really nice, and the cont. breakfast is probably the best.
But, it is a bit of a walk especially on your tired feet at night !

I have also stayed right across the street at BW Park Place Inn, Park Vue, and Desert Inn.

I prefer Park Vue, and the breakfast was more than just the basic cont. meal. You can park at all 4 of these hotels.

I am planning on staying at Park Vue next summer !!

The great thing about Candy Cane Inn is that you have the shuttle if you're tired. It's free, and comes every half hour. We never had a problem with them running out of space on the shuttle, it was always on time.

HoJo doesn't have bfast at all so keep that in mind, but they do have that great Ent Rate so we stayed there a lot. The CCI has the shuttle and bfast so if the HoJo was booked up we liked the CCI. both are very close, walking distance is about the same from both hotels and both are nice. Those are my first 2 choices when thinking of going to DLR.
