Hi All...I've already looked on the So Cal forum but there doesn't seem to be as much traffic, so I'm reaching out to all of you :goodvibes

We are planning to do a 10 day trip out to California this summer....3 nights San Diego, 3 Nights Hollywood and 3 in Anaheim. I have lodging decided for San Diego & Anaheim, but I'm really struggling on where to stay for the Hollywood leg of the trip.

Things I'm looking for:

Pool
Laundry Facilities
Reasonable parking rates
Clean
Proximity to local attractions

I'm leaning towards the Best Western near Hollywood Blvd, but if there are any non-chain places that have more of a local flavor, I'm open.

Also, any and all touring recommendations are welcome. The only thing we are absolutely set on doing is catching a Dodgers game on either Fri or Sat.

TIA for any insights you have to offer

We took this exact trip last summer. We stayed at the Renaissance at Hollywood and Highland. Hollywood Heights Hotel was up the street abit.
We loved our San Diego leg of the trip, we stayed on Coronado Island for beach and relaxation. We finished our trip at the Grand California in Disneyland. This was one of the best vacations we have had in a long time. Have a great time.:)

There is the Bel-Age (famous from 90210 where Dylan stayed. - Don't ask me how I know) But I haven't been there in over 10 years. There is the Standard, may not fit the bill 100%. I'm not sure where else but I don't know that I'd stay in a best western in Hollyweird. I developed a technique when I went to recording school down there. If I had a late class and took a "dinner break" at 10 or 11pm and a crack head would approach me, I would just talk to myself as if I were one of them and they generally left me alone.

Personally, I don't see the appeal of Hollywood. I'd rather stay in Santa Monica or Pasadena or something. But that is me, I grew up near there.

I agree. I had a bunch of business trips out to Glendale CA from 2005 to 2008 and went to Hollywood a few times. There really isn't much there. The street with the stars on the sidewalk is kind of seedy. I'd rather stay in the Universal Studios area. We had a conference there once and stayed at the Sheraton which was within close walking distance of Universal Studios and City Walk.

I would also recommend the Universal Hilton and Universal Sheraton.

Thank you!! This is exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for. I've never been to the area and thought staying in Hollywood would be better for newbies like us. I guess I'm intimidated with how to navigate my way around the area.

We do plan on spending a day at Universal, so I will check out hotels in that area.

To those who have toured the area, any & all suggestions welcomed :thumbsup2

Is travel between Santa Monica and the Hollywood area difficult?? Essentially, we plan one day for touring Hollywood by day, catching the Dodgers at night, dedicating one day to Universal, and leaving one day open to just explore the area beaches, shopping, etc.

I'm just not sure the best way to plan those days and what difficulty we will have navigating our way. I will have a rental car, but would prefer to keep it parked at a centralized hotel and use whatever public transportation is available.

Thanks....

I have the same trip planned in April for myself and DD:thumbsup2 We are staying 3 nights at the Candy Cane Inn (Anaheim), 3 nights at the Beverly Garland (near Universal) and 3 nights at the BW Blue Sea Lodge in San Diego.

I too have started reading that maybe its better to stay at Santa Monica and drive to the local attractions. Would love to hear more about this and any reviews on the hotels I've chosen as well. I'm going to google the Roosevelt but I'm thinking its out of my price range...

The Bel-Age is now the London West Hollywood. Lovely all-suite hotel, fabulous bathrooms, and Gordon Ramsey dining. Kind of pricey but we really like it, being in LA 4-5 times a year. Love the West Hollywood area, I'll be sad if my daughter decides to move, lol.

Things in the Los Angeles area aren't far from each other, it's the traffic that makes traveling a pain.
