For those familiar with Queens, where would be the best hotel to stay at for this neighborhood venue?

Not opposed to using public transportation. But I am needing a good hotel recommendation.

Thank you!

There are not a ton of hotels in Forest Hills, but the venue is very close to both the subway (E/R/M/F trains) and the Long Island Railroad. It may be easier to stay in a JFK airport hotel or even in Manhattan.

Is Forest Hills Stadium the only thing you are going to do while you are here? I was there about 3 weeks ago. Traveling from Times Square via the E train subway took about 45 min. So staying in Manhattan or visiting it from Forest Hills is quite doable. :thumbsup2

My suggestion to find a hotel around there is to look at the reviews on TripAdvisor.com, Hotel.com & Orbitz. Then when you've narrowed it down a bit, use Google Maps to see if it's easy to get from that hotel to Forest Hills Stadium by subway. The E & F train stop is the closest. The R train is several blocks away by walking. (I don't think there is an M train this summer in Manhattan & Queens. Or it doesn't run on the weekends. Something like that. )

Here is the Google Map link. It's already set to Forest Hills Stadium and getting there by train to the Forest Hills/71 St stop. Just input the hotel(s) address in the top line and it will give various routes by subway.

If you are going there on a weekend, know that there is almost ALWAYS subway detours due to construction on the weekends to either the R train and/or the E & F trains. We usually don't know till that weekend. Yet an E or F train will always go to the Forest Hills/71 St stop as it is a major stop. You might have to take the R train or 7 train part way and transfer to the E or F train in Queens.

Here is a link to find what the various construction detours(s) are the morning of the day you want to get to Forest Hills Stadium, just click on E, F, & R trains to see if there are any detours. Sometimes Google Maps might even know about the delays that day & re-route the trip differently for you.

This was super helpful!!! Thank you! You are obviously an expert. Exactly what I was looking for.

What smaller neighborhoods would you suggest/do you enjoy for a drink, a good meal, walkability to shops, etc. ? Doesn't have to be touristy.

The R train also stops at 71st St., not sure why the map says it doesn't. That's the last stop on that route!

Google maps isn't accurate for subway lines in NYC. For instance they show the E Train going down 6th Ave. in Manhattan rather than 8th.

Actually looks like they fixed it after I e-mailed them about it.

During subway construction, it actually does go down the 6th Ave/ F train line as they fix the tracks on the regular 8th Ave/E train line. That's why I said there is almost ALWAYS subway construction on the E & F and R train lines. So Google Maps may have already gotten an alert that the E trains have been switched.

Makes sense. I was checking on the weekend which is usually when they close sections of track.

::yes:: Sometimes they have the changes in advance.

Probably with the R train was changed & someone didn't change it back after the weekend.

You could try Flushing. There's a huge Chinatown there. Bigger than the one in Manhattan. I knew I was going to be spending a couple weeks in that area. I went to Yelp.com and input Flushing, NY for the area.

It came up with a tiny little eatery that has great reviews and even better pics of the food. I then find out chef, Anthony Bourdain, had recommended it (not on Yelp,) as one if his favorite spots.

It's tiny. Only a few seats at the counter to eat at. But the rice noodles are so fresh & made on the spot. You get to choose your fillings. It has become one of my favorite spots too.

I also found a bakery nearby that has my favorite tarts & cookies through Yelp too.

You can find sit down restaurants on Yelp the same way.

Also near Forest Hills is the Queens Botanical Gardens.
