Anyone have any suggestions for a decent, affordable hotel 2-3 hours north of WDW? I am thinking we may leave the evening before we are supposed to check in and then get a hotel for the night and hit the road again early morning. I guess I am needing S Georgia or N Florida.

Don't know if this will fit the timing you are looking for, but we stop in Brunswick, GA, when we are splitting our drive from Greenville, SC to Sarasota, FL. We always bid on priceline hotels and have been happy w/ the hotels we've gotten in Brunswick. Check out biddingfortravel.com if you decide to go the priceline route. Specific hotels we were pleased with were the Sleep Inn and Hampton Inn. We also recently stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Brunswick but not as a priceline hotel. Loved this hotel!

Uh, 2-3 hours north of WDW isn't GA. It's actually just south of J'Ville to Palm Coast. Not a whole lot there.

And if you "hit the road" in the early morning on a weekday you'll run into hell, otherwise known as rush hour on I-4.

You're better off just driving all the way and grabbing an inexpensive room off property.

We live just west of Charlotte and on our past two trips we have split up the drive by stopping at the Wingate Inn at the Jacksonville airport. The hotel is fairly new and as with all Wingate Inns i've stayed at their always clean. Neat location with several restaurants. Decent rate when we used showed our AAA card.
