DH and I are headed to DL - for 3 nites - next month, sans kids :cool1:. We presently have a couple of hotel options for our budget-friendly trip, but I'm struggling to make a final decision. So, when all else fails...it's time to turn to the Disboards for input :thumbsup2

Options:
- Anaheim Plaza (booked) for just over $300.
- HoJo (booked) for just over $400. However, 1-nite is at the Super Family Rate (has to be cancelled 30-days in advance to avoid 1-nite penalty). On a side note, yet totally related, if HoJo would just send out a new email with my 2 other dates included then the decision would be made :rotfl2:
- 3rd option, a split stay...1st nite HoJo (super family rate) and 2 nites FFI (via lastminutetravel.com - I waited too long a now can't get all 3 nites!). This split stay would come out to a few bucks LESS than Anaheim Plaza - and that includes parking at FFI, which I hope to get included with the room rate ;).

Anyone willing to share their thoughts....on my options, on hotels (we've stayed at all BUT Anaheim Plaza), on a split stay for a 3-nite trip, etc? :surfweb:

Well, I haven't even been to Disneyland yet...so I haven't stayed at those hotels.

But, I would vote no on the split-stay. The savings isn't extravagant enough to hassle with moving your luggage, changing location, etc with such a short stay.

I would definitely nix the split stay from the options. It seems like too short a stay to be bothered packing and unpacking even if it is just to move next store.

Maybe your budget is super tight but if I were you and I knew that I liked the HoJo I don't think I would try somewhere else to save $100 on a 3 night trip.

Hope you have a great trip.

I would go back to lastminutetravel and look up what those hotels are for their mystery rates. Go to tripadvisor and identify hotels by the number of reviews on LMT then confirm by the photos. I looked up 5 nights in Oct. today and the Hilton was like $80/night, the Holiday Inn like $65, the Red Lion like $72. All should be cheaper than your lowest option above.

It looks like you want to stay within walking distance. So do we, this time.

We are booked at the Anaheim Plaza Inn for a 10 day stay mid october. I know some people hate this place, but after a lot of research, many people really like it too. Do a search and read the reviews by fellow DISers.

We went with it because for the price, it can't be beat. I would have like the BW Park Place Inn, but it was much more than the API. We only need a place to sleep and get ready for the parks. I'll be sure and report back once we begin our stay.

Thanks for the replies!

DLRfan31, you're absolutely correct, we want to stay within walking distance. We KNOW HoJo, but Anaheim is $100 less....and that can pay for a nice anniversary dinner :goodvibes. I'm just hung up on never having experienced API and the iffy reviews .

Yeah I was too, but I'm going to call sometime in the week before we leave and make some requests, like for a microwave (all rooms don't have them but from the DIS reviews, its easy to get one if you ask) and we want a/c. Somewhere on here I read that some of the buildings (I think they have 7??) have central air, not individual.

Most rooms have either a balcony or a private patio area that you can see from the pics on Tripadvisor. I know TA has some bad reviews, but after LOTS of research....all the Harbor hotels have some!

I'm not sure who "hates" the API but it's been a great place for us to stay more than a few times. :) Definitely walking distance, rooms are decent, staff is friendly and it's close enough to walk to the GardenWalk as well. I'd go with the API if you reach your 30 day mark and the HoJo hasn't released your other 2 nights yet.

IMO a split stay can be a bit of a pain. I'd nix that option. And if I had to choose btwn Anaheim Plaza and Hojo's, I'd stay at Hojo's even if it was $100 more total. Though I've never stayed at Anaheim Plaza, the reviews are a little more iffy and I know that I love Hojo's.

I was referring to a few complainers on TripAdvisor.

Your good review is one reason I feel confident that our stay there next month will be a good one! :thumbsup2

Can you recommend the best location at the hotel? I know there are several buildings.

:) Honestly, we've only stayed in the first building, we like it, it's closest to the parks and the pool/hot tub area. We prefer upstairs but we prefer that at any hotel, we don't like people above us. It's also closer to the front desk and the restaurant. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to nix the split stay...I don't think it'd be worth the time/effort.

However, I called HoJo to confirm the absolute latest that I could cancel without penalty. They said 48 hours. I asked...even though I have the Super Family rate one nite?! She said, yep! I asked again...are you SURE?! She explained that the 30-day cancellation only applies if ALL nites are at the special rate. YAY!!!

So now, if HoJo comes out with the additional days we'll stay there. Otherwise, we'll give API a try :)

Glad to hear you have up to 48 hours to cancel. Never hurts to check and recheck when working on having the best DLR vacation! pixiedust:

I prefer being upstairs too, but this time we'll have my Mom along with a wheelchair, so we'll be on the bottom floor. I sure hope they don't put a herd of elephants above us! :rotfl2:

LOL best of luck that there are no elephants there at the same time. LOL :)

OP glad you found that out, I thought it was 30 days no matter what with that special rate! :)

In the first building, were the beds comfy? did the water pressure work okay? were you able to regulate your own a/c??

Have you looked at priceline and or hotwire? You can go to better bidding to find out what you might get. The Hyatt Regency has it's own shuttle so yes while it's not walking distance it does drop you right off at the door.

I know I could do better....we have stayed at better hotels many previous visits. But this time we definitely want to stay on Harbor, within walking distance. I know API is not fancy, but lots of people actually like it. I'm willing to give it a try. We only use the room to sleep, rest, and shower.
