I am going to book a hotel tomorrow for a 3 nite trip for me and DS 14. I have narrowed it down to Carousel Inn or Del Sol Inn. Which would be a better choice? We will not have a car, and I want to be able to walk to the parks. Is one closer, or one much better/nicer than the other? and does either one have free internet in the rooms? TIA!!

Ok, I've never stayed at either of those but I've heard horror stories about Del Sol and bugs. We always try the HoJo first, we have the Ent Card and get GREAT rates, $59-$74 a night. It's definitely walkable, takes us about 7-10 min. tops and the savings is well worth it for us. The other 2 you are asking about are probably about a 5 min. walk but I don't know for sure because I've never stayed there. :)

I will look into the HoJo, but since we will be there the Sat-Tues of Thanksgiving week, I doubt I can get the Ent. rate. We have stayed at HoJo before, and really liked it. I would rather be closer to the park if I can't get the Ent. rate! I guess I will book Carousel if I can't get the HoJo Ent. rate!! Thanks!

My friend just stayed at the Del Sol in late July with her mom and son, and she said it was fine. She didn't have any complaints. But I am one who tends to think that if multiple people have reported bug sightings there, then there probably are bugs. I haven't heard one way or the other. When my friend went, however, it could have just been luck of the draw that day. I wouldn't discount the 'bug factor' in other rooms, because they did get an awfully cheap room for mid-summer! But my friend said the room was fine - nothing snazzy - and there was a little breakfast in the morning. I kept telling her to go to HoJo's since everyone seems to like it, and she didn't want to. She stuck to her guns with the Del Sol and I guess it worked out okay!

If you want to be close to the parks, I can recommend the Tropicana very much. We had a wonderful stay there, its nice, our room was spotless and it had a nice pool area with a huge hottub. It also has a free, but minimal breakfast. I also highly recommend the Best Western Park Place Inn, it doesn't have as nice of a pool area but it and the Tropicana are as close as you can get. And last but not least, I like the Camelot, its a tiny bit further but still closer than the Hojo and its operated/owned by the same people that own the Tropicana. It has a rooftop pool that is an awesome place to watch the fireworks. Any three of those I am very comfortable recommending. They don't have the grounds and large rooms of the Hojo but they are all three very nice and clean and very close!

Have a fun trip!

We stay at the Carosel everytime.. We LOVE it! I am a clean freak, and they have hardwood floors (carpets gross me out in hotels), and white bed linens! They also have kid's suites that have a second room with a bunk bed and mickey sheets. The continental breakfast isn't fabulous, but none are. They have the same pastrys and cereals as anywhere.
eta they do not have free internet in the hotel rooms, I think they do in the lobby, but I have never tried it.. And the walk to the park isnt bad at all.. Very close.

We enjoyed our stay at the Carousel in 2006, we found them excellent and very close to parks. Carousel has had mixed reviews of late so we are currently deciding between Camelot and Carousel at the moment. Del Sol is about the same distance as Carousel with Hojos a good 5 minutes walk further than both.

Gotcha! I totally understand this. What if you made your ressies at another hotel and then just kept checking the HoJo, just in case. We were told that they never put the Ent Rate up for July so we were sure we couldn't take DD12 for her b-day (the rest of us had b-day trips last year) but at the last minute they added some dates in July so we went. Maybe if they aren't full they will add some dates?

So, if we can't stay at the HoJo we try the Candy Cane Inn (for the FREE shuttle really) and if they are full we go to the Tropicana. HTH!

I will check out the Tropicana and Camelot, and BWPPI. Does anyone know if any of those have free internet in the rooms?

Sorry, no clue about the internet. I don't take a computer with me when I'm on vacation. :) I know the HoJo has connections in the rooms and I'm pretty sure it's free but I've never used it. They do have computers in the lobby, we use those when we need something.
