HOT, HOT, HOT...how's the weather?

Hubby and I arrive tomorrow around 10am for a brief visit before boarding the Disney Wonder on Sunday. We are from Texas and very accustomed to the heat, but is it really approaching 100 or so out there right now? WOW! What does that feel like in Southern California compared to my Dallas?

I probably shouldn't laugh, but whenever I read people talking about southern California being HOT, I do anyway. I'm from far northern California, where 106 is usually a cooling trend. I've gone when people are complaining about the heat and just loved it.

If you're used to the heat and humidity in Texas, it will be a bit different in CA. There is no real humidity like you're used to. When people say it's soooo humid in CA, that means it's probably still less than 50% humidity. It's definitely a dry heat, but still can cause issues so remember to hydrate and wear sunscreen.

Also, remember to bring a jacket for the evenings. As warm as it is during the day, it cools off quickly in the evening. Per the recent weather it looks like it's staying in the 70s overnight, but I've been there when it goes from 90 during the day to the 50s in the evening and I freeze.

Now that I've moved to Washington I wonder how long it will take before I'm complaining about the 90 degree heat at Disney myself?

Yesterday was fine: it was hot but just as if I were opening up the oven door. I prefer that type of heat over humidity

im thinking that you probably didnt read any of the previous posts on here before you posted this:laughing:...southern california doesnt get into the 100's usually and there has been record breaking heat ...yesterday alone in Long Beach(which is all ocean) it got up to 104...their average weather is mid to high 70's in the summer...and in anaheim which is inland, it was almost as bad...also, you are correct about the average humidity being low...however, included in this record breaking heat, there were several days where the humidity reached 75%...so yeah I think people are understanding perfectly what NO CA heat is on the regular right now...

I'm from Seattle area so anything over 70 is warm. By 90, I'm fried!

We are used to humid weather, just a month or so ago it was 70 degrees & 80% humidity! Blech! Makes it feels SO much warmer & sticky icky!! Then throw in some rain & you can literally see steam coming off the pavement.

I was SO hoping that by end Sept/early Oct the SoCal weather would have cooled down. Guess not :(

And I'm thinking that you didn't actually read either my post or the OP. The OP is from Texas, they were asking how it compares to Dallas, 106 degree heat in Anaheim is not the same as the heat in Texas. I've been checking the humidity, and it hasn't been 75% as you claimed. The highest I've seen was 48% (and that was at 5am), and at the same time of day the humidity in TX twice that. Currently (today is the day OP was asking about) humidity is 12%.

You really need to reread what you type before you post it. My comments were joking and lighthearted, yours were rude.

Oh, also, no you will never have a clue what NorCal weather is like, unless you actually spend some time there. 106 is seriously a cooling trend, that was not hyperbole. I've seen heat in the 120s in the valley, and that's actually not uncommon. 106 is a nice day in July. 120 is a bad day in August.

Wow I sense some tension.

Anyway, it was 108 yesterday and not humid, and looking at the percent level is not accurate really for humidity. You have to look at the Dew Point, right now the Dew Point is under 60 degrees, if it gets to be over 60 degrees Dew Point then it is considered to be humid. There is no need to get mad at someone and snap at them.

Right now it's 103, it will probably get a few more degrees warmer.. they say it will hit 105, we'll see. It's hot, it may not be humid but it is still. . very very very hot. It will be a bit cooler tomorrow possibly (93 degrees), but I would not rely on a weather site for planning because it's not always accurate, CA is odd like that.

I agree with the above-bolded statement! Any way you slice it, it's very hot - humidity or no humidity.

The thing is, some people are affected by heat more than others, so what one person thinks is pleasant will be sheer misery for someone else. Ever since I was a small child I have had bad reactions to heat - and it doesn't have to be 100 degrees for it to affect me. It can be much 'cooler' than that, like 80 degrees. People are just wired differently - and it works the same way with colder temperatures. What some people think is freezing will be downright delightful to others.

It's a good thing to be very familiar with your own heat tolerance - if you are someone who thrives in hot weather and loves 100+ degree heat, then this is the weather for you. If you are someone who gets ill or is easily affected by temperatures higher than a certain number, do what you need to do to stay well.:goodvibes

That said, the 100+ degrees is a little unusual in the middle of SoCal in September (it happened 2 years ago at this same time, though, so it's not unheard of). It's more uncommon for it to rain at this time of year than it is to be hot. I am not at all shocked when we have 90-degree weather in August and September, though. I don't like it, but I expect it. I am shocked if it's below 80 degrees in the Summer - last year it happened to be below the norm, I think, for quite a bit of the Summer.

I am in Hollywood, it is 102 now...at lease that is what my phone says.. I'll take its word for it ...lol!!
I don't know how anyone can enjoy how hot it is. But , if you like it , or its way hotter where you live, Great.:thumbsup2 Walking around DL on the hot black pavement, should be a breeze... :faint: <<< that would be me Or Id just burst into flames....
If I were at DL right now, I think Id be living in Innoventions. Or maybe watch Lincoln 50 times.
Seriously,
I'd be living in all of the theaters:
Lincoln
Muppets (DCA) :3dglasses
Captain EO :3dglasses
Main Street Movie Theater ::MickeyMo
Aladdin Theater (DCA):genie:

Who ever is there now, remember to drink plenty of water!! :drinking1
Try to stay out of the sun!:umbrella::umbrella::sunny:
Wear your sunscreen, remember to reapply often.:cool2:
There is a nice big couch area in the Grand Californian Hotel..... nice and cool in there....:cold::cold:
and remember... where ever you are.. Don't leave your pets or kids in the car!! its too hot!! very dangerous.:scared::crazy2::dog:
I , myself, am parked on the couch with the dogs and the DH , the ac cranked, drinking iced coffee, watching Christmas movies.... Oh look, its snowing in Connecticut.... :cold::cold::cold::dogdance::dogdance::drinking1: :dancer::santa:

Don't forget the Animation Building in DCA! That's a great place for an escape from the sun. That's where I'd be sitting most of the day, and when I wasn't sitting there I would be in the GCH lobby.

I love your idea of watching Christmas movies. I did a Christmas movie/TV show marathon (self-made, not anything on a network) a couple of weeks ago!

The heat is why I changed my reservation to Sept. 26th. I don't do well in heat, neither will the 4 year old twins.

I don't blame you one bit! Better to be safe than sorry when you know that you don't do well in heat. I'm glad you were able to change the reservations.

I didn't go to the first day of Halloween Time yesterday (nor did I go to DLR today), even though I wanted to gather photos and info for the Halloween Superthread. It is a heat stroke waiting to happen for me, and I don't want to collapse in the middle of Disneyland...nor do I want to be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes because I have to drink water non-stop in order to stay hydrated and cool.

I live in Tucson, 105 is the norm here for the summer months, but that doesn't mean I want to spend the day outside in it. (Yeah, even those of us from warm climates still enjoy A/C.) Low humidity does help, but it can definitely still be too hot for some (we had a few people die from heat stroke while hiking this summer; so be sure to make sure you're not getting too hot and always stay hydrated).

Currently, the forecast says that it will be cooling off before we get there in a week. I hope it's correct.

I have a friend there now. I gave her the advice to get all the AC she could today. She did Aladdin, Muppets, Turtle Talk, Playhouse Disney, Innoventions, Tiki Room, & Captain EO. I reminded her cups of ice water were free.

I'll remind her about Mr. Lincoln and Main Street Cinema.

She said she was doing OK but the heat was making her a bit cranky. She said it was really hot!

It was so hot yesterday that the parks did something they rarely do: they cancelled parades. The 4pm Soundsational parade was replaced by the "Rainy Day Cavalcade" -- i.e. several characters riding on the Omnibus down the parade route. While the 5pm Pixar Play Parade was cancelled altogether. I'm glad they did as a safety precaution for all the parade cast members. It would have been dangerous for them to be performing in that heat. However, I believe the 6:30pm Soundsational was performed with appropriate heat modifications to costumes and choreography.

If you're in the parks, be careful, stay cool and hydrated as much as possible!

When I use to live back east it was known July and August were the hottest muggy days. I have learned living out here now the hotter months tend to be sept/oct. hope this helps someone in the future.

We just arrived and it's 102 right now. We spent some time at The Grove this afternoon and it was hot!!! We were all ready to leave.

We are checking into the FFI now and heading to the pool!

I sincerely hope tomorrow is cooler.

I'm grew up on the East Coast and I've lived in the South (along the coast, no less), so I know about hot weather and humidity. (We live in the Bay Area now, so I am used to cool breezes and median temps.) No, the humidity isn't as bad, but anyway you look at it, it's hot!!!

Tommorow is not suppose to be as bad. A high of 88 and I am 11 miles from DL towards the ocean.

The last forecast I heard (on TV) for Sunday/tomorrow predicted a high of 91 degrees. I then checked Accuweather for Anaheim, and it also said a high of 91, with a "Real Feel" of 95 degrees. Accuweather tends to underestimate temperatures - I have referred to them a lot in the past, and they change their forecast every day, but their final forecast is usually lower than what the weather turns out to be.

It sometimes hits 120 in Death Valley, but that's the hottest place in the state, and the July average there is closer to 100.

110-115 isn't uncommon out in the SoCal desert during the summer, but I've never heard of any place where 120 was common.

Also, I live in one of the hottest parts of the state, and 106 or more isn't unusual this time of year, but I don't know anyone who would call it a nice day. Even those of us who are acclimated to it think it's hot.
