What is a good brand? What brand of popcorn do you put in it? popcorn::

I have a Presto Poplite that my Mom got me at Wally World over a year ago. I love it. You just pour the popcorn in and plug it in (no on/off switch) and it takes about 1.5 minutes and it tastes great. I use Orvil Redenbacher's popcorn. I'll admit, at first I bought the Best Choice (or some generic) brand and half of it didn't pop and the kernels that did pop were small. The Orvil stuff pops up nice and big--yummy! Also, I spray my popcorn with some Pam to get my salt and butter flavor to stick.

I just got one at Kohls on BF, paid practically nothing for it and it works great. It's the Orville Redenbacher one. It tastes a lot different than the oil popped in the pan popcorn we're used to, but I have to remember it's healthier.

That's the kind my mom always made for us.

I have been making microwave as I don't want to ruin any of my new pots-I don't have any old ones.

The Toastess brand is on sale up here at Canadian Tire. Anyone have that brand? I have enough CT money so it won't cost me anything.

I want to buy them for my sister's as stocking stuffers. We do a $50 draw so the stocking stuffers are bigger as that is the only gift we give the rest of the family.

Since they were so cheap, I decided to buy one for myself and test it out. I bought the no name popping corn as the Popcorn maker said not to use gourmet corn. It seemed to work well and I like the taste of it -better than microwave. Hopefully, my sister's will like it also.

I bought an cheap one from Walgreen's for $8. It pops well but it is too shallow so it makes unpopped kernels fly into the bowl, I wouldn't suggest it. That said, I'd make sure that you make sure you buy one that has some height to it.

I buy "organic" bulk popcorn from a food co-op. It is the biggest, fluffiest popcorn I've ever seen.

The toastess one works fine. It has a lip on it so the kernels don't fly out. The popcorn tasted fine to me. I just sprayed it with some cooking spray and added some salt.

They were on for $11.99, and I had enough money on my Canadian Tire card to get 3.

This could have been my post -- a Walgreens purchase for me, too. I needed a new popper and thought it was cute. The kernels go EVERYWHERE because the design is so flawed. Go with the Presto. You definitely need height.

We bought 2 different models last year. They both were at around $30 and were of good brand name. Neither worked well. As others have mentioned, these just threw mostly unpopped kernels into the bowl. We gave up after my husband tried to modify it, causing it to clog and burn up the motor. :rotfl2: All he was trying to do was devise a way to keep the unpopped kernels from ending up in our bowl. We gave up and switched to the old fashioned stove and skillet.

Well it worked great for 2 days. I made about 5 batches in that time.

When I tried the 3rd day, it only popped a few kernels. It doesn't have a problem with the popcorn flying out, it just won't pop. The popcorn is fine-it worked the other 2 days.

When I left an e-mail for the company, there response was:

We are sorry to hear about your disappointment with the TCP-388. We apologize for the inconveniences this has caused you. Please have a safe & Happy Holiday .

Regards,

Kind of makes you think they get this all the time! I thought I would get a response saying please try another popper, the one you have must be defective.

Um..what the heck?! I can't believe they didn't offer up a replacement!

I wasn't looking for a replacement-I just bought it, I can take it back.

I was kind of hoping that it was just the one I got that wasn't very good. I was expecting an e-mail saying please try a new popper as the one you got must be defective. Nope! I guess they know they don't work.

Sorry about the company's "customer service."

Before my Walgreens debacle (I don't know what brand, but it was super short), I had had a Presto for over 20 years. Now I wonder whatever got me to buy a different brand.....Maybe I need to add to my list for Santa! :santa:
