Hospital sent me to collections!!!

Wait and submit the letter to collections when they contact you. I had an issue with Univeristy of Louisville Sleep center in reference to my daughter and they waited until 2009 (her bills/visits were from 2005) to send me to collections AFTER sending me a check for everything I had paid into them. I was livid because not only had I paid them but so had the insurance company 3 different times on the same claim (kept claiming they had not received and the insurance company electronically sent it where they said to which was wrong place so insurance sent a check on 3rd pay) and had proof the check was cashed. It was so much easier dealing with the collections on it because I just sent them the copies of everything and they got the matter fixed.

I hope your little one is doing better now.

We should all keep these receipts in a safe place and be ready for this nonsense. Twice, I've been turned over to a collections agency by the same medical group.

Once, they decided the negociated co-pay wasn't enough. The result? Aetna helped me and told me the group's behavior was outrageous, though when I checked back on the automated account, I noticed Aetna did give them a little more money.

Now I'm waiting to hear back on another claim for $30. When I had the x-ray done, I was wrongly charged for a co-pay of $35. They keep billing me for $30, scolding me for not paying in a timely fashion, even though they owe me $5. I saved the receipt they gave me as well as the Disney Visa receipt. They stopped billing me but I sure haven't seen my $5.

I had something similar happen to me after my second child was born. After insurance had paid everything they were going to pay, we had about $1200 to pay ourselves. I had no problem with that and made arrangements to pay the hospital at least $50 a month and if I could pay more, I would. Every month I made the $50 payment and sometimes paid $150. Depending on our finances. I kept getting bills in the mail almost everyday from different doctors (all relating to my daughter's birth) and would call the hosptial about it. They said as long as I was making the minimum payment, I was fine. Sure enough, the radiologist's office turned me over to collection (he is employed by the hospital). I went to the hospital with copies of all of my payments and at first the lady told me that since I hadn't paid the radiologist bill, there was nothing she could do. I was absolutely stunned and asked to speak to someone else. After her supervisor looked it over, it was agreed that I had made all of my payments on time and they called the collections company to take me off of their list. It was a big pain in the rear! I understand that several people deal with you during childbirth, but why can't the hospital just put it on one bill? I have never figured this one out! When I go to a store and charge something, I don't get a separate bill for each item I bought. Anyway, OP, I hope you get everything settled. Just keep copies of everything. I would definitely go to the office in person with all of your paperwork. I would demand a letter from them saying that you have a zero balance. Good luck!
