Hospital lunch presentation

This reminds me when I was a teenager there was a hospital that gave you a steak dinner before you left if you gave birth there. It was a big incentive.

Food keeps people happy and choosing that hospital again!

My husband was hospitalized a couple of years ago, and he got a menu to choose his entrees, sides, desserts, beverages etc. I wanted to eat dinner from that menu!

They gave my husband a menu too. A lot of good choices.

That's way better than what I got when I was hospitalized overnight a few years ago. I got standard cafeteria food.

The closest hospital that accepts my son and DIL's insurance in Santa Monica is a concierge medicine hospital. She got a survey before check her C-Section and there were all kinds of extra cost options. Luxury bedding. Upgraded meals. Movies on demand in your room. They passed on everything except one night my son ordered from the "family room service menu" for dinner.

When I was hospitalized in 2016 for two days, you could tell by the odor when meals were being served. The first lunch I was liquids only and got some dishwater-colored broth with what looked like a hairball at the bottom to go along with my Jello and tea. There were no flowers, I'm jealous.

Wow! That does look good. Where's the tin foil lidded jello and applesauce? :)
LOL. My mom was a nurse and frequently brought home treats from the cafeteria for me. They made the best custard ever. Fast forward about 50 years an my wife was in that hospital and they brought her some tin foil lidded Kozyshack custard. My wife hates custard so she gave it to me, and the nurse came in and I told her about my fond memories of the hospital made custard. My wife was surprised that the nurse said, that while that was before she worked there, she had heard that their culinary staff used to make everything from scratch and the food used to be amazing.

We still have homemade custard and we also carry Kozyshack puddings, which patients love. Just the other day I had a patient saying how good the vanilla pudding was! (I like it myself!) The thing about hospital snacks today is germ control. Everything has to be individually wrapped and dated, etc., according to the powers that be who accredit the hospital. Our cafeteria food used to be good but now there is a company that does it and it’s terrible. I’ve been in other hospitals whose food is really good and the unit‘s snacks available are numerous - like soup and cereal in addition to standard crackers.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had was after I gave birth to my oldest daughter. My water had broken the day before about 3PM while I was in the middle of deep cleaning the refrigerator (yes, some serious nesting was happening) and I was hungry when it occurred. I was not permitted food after that and when DD finally arrived almost 30 hours later I had missed a whole bunch of meals. I recall the nurse telling me they had saved me a piece of vegetable lasagna from dinner and not being terribly excited about it. It tasted amazing. I often wonder if it was really that good or I was just that hungry and had low expectations. I delivered 2 more kids there and always looked for the vegetable lasagna, but it was never on the menu. The food was nothing special the next two times.

That looks great. When I was in the hospital a few years ago, the dinners were terrible. I couldn't decline them, but they would deliver it, I wouldn't eat any of it and then my DH would bring me something for dinner.

For lunch, I was able to choose and I could just get a chicken salad or tuna salad sandwich instead of their "hot meals" that were pretty bad.

Nice pic of a nice lunch, OP.

The best meal I ever had when I was at the hospital was a McDonald's burger and fries brought in the next day after my youngest was born. It was brought in by the nurse who ended up delivering my Danny because the doctor didn't quite make it. She was so excited because she hadn't delivered too many babies and wanted to do something to celebrate with me. Best burger and fries I ever ate.

My hospital does some things really good, like pot roast and chicken and dumplings… And some things really bad… I’m looking at you Alfredo.

At least you got food!

I still cannot believe they didn't have food for me afterwards. They made a big deal about how they had special fine dining meals for both mom and dad when I went to the birthing class. But by the time I was done the cafeteria was closed and there was nothing. Dh had to go get fast food. Didn't even get it the next day. :sad2: That was some bull.

However, I was in the best hospital for handling delivery emergencies and I didn't need it so that's really all that matters. :thumbsup2
