Usually that’s not a problem.Does anyone know if you are discharged from a hospital do you have to leave right away. Meaning can you stay a few extra hours so someone can go pick you up.
I work in a hospital. As discussed on another thread, things are very tight right now and many hospitals are bursting at the seams with patients being cared for in hallways and overflow beds (like former closets and office spaces without bathrooms and such). Those patients need to get into the rooms, so ideally, patients ready for discharge shouldn’t be hanging around rooms a few extra hours waiting for a ride. The rooms need to get cleaned and operational again asap. Many hospitals have lounges where discharged patients can safely and comfortably wait, if appropriate. But all of this just depends where you are.Does anyone know if you are discharged from a hospital do you have to leave right away. My husband had a procedure a couple of weeks ago. When I arrived to pick him up he was waiting outside by himself, lol.I had two procedures this year and they still don't even allow the person picking you up in the hospital building. My wife called when she arrived and they wheeled me out to the car. So at least here, your discharge is all linked to when your ride arrives.
Wow. I had to go out in a wheelchair and had to have their help to get in the car. But I had anesthesia. My husband had a procedure a couple of weeks ago. When I arrived to pick him up he was waiting outside by himself, lol.
So did he.Wow. I had to go out in a wheelchair and had to have their help to get in the car. But I had anesthesia.
Was this an in-patient procedure? Took DH to a hospital for a colonoscopy and was able to wait in the waiting area, go back into the recovery area, etc, until he was discharged.I had two procedures this year and they still don't even allow the person picking you up in the hospital building. It was a kidney biopsy. I have another procedure Monday so we will see, but they still haven't been letting anyone inside the treatments centers if they can avoid it. Things like masks still required here. Was this an in-patient procedure? So, people, remember that when your relative is sitting on a stretcher in the Emergency Room for hours and hours! Someone else is hanging out in their room waiting for their ride to come!At my old hospital, many patients stayed well past discharge time waiting for rides.
Administration wasn’t too fond of it (it stalled bed turnover).
Probably depends on your region. Masks are still required here in medical facilities also, but I had a hospital procedure in April 2021 (in PA) and DH was able to come along to that. Here in VA they say allowed to bring one person. It was a kidney biopsy. In my experience the time between "hey we are discharging you" and "you are ready to go" is looooooong. Hours long.Does anyone know if you are discharged from a hospital do you have to leave right away. Meaning can you stay a few extra hours so someone can go pick you up.
That means 24 hrs from whenever your start time was.I was always told insurance covers for the today so until 11:59pm.
Yep, nothing worse than all those lazy nurses working in hospitals these daysBTW nurses may not rush you out, either, because they don’t want to have to take another admission. So they may say sure, hang out here, no problem!
You think I’m disparaging nurses? I guess you don’t know me too well.Yep, nothing worse than all those lazy nurses working in hospitals these days

Unfortunately my youngest Granddaughter had to go the hospital with RSV last week. This was in Los Angeles. Because she was a minor they let one parent in, but my son couldn't go in.Probably depends on your region.
