Hey everyone
we are very curious since we have the horseback riding excursion booked for costa maya which one is better? Which one gives you the most riding time for the horses?
HELP and tips are appreciated :goodvibes

Please be careful about the riding. The horses I saw in Cozumel and Costa Maya were in horrible condition, extremely underweight, horrendous saddle sores, tied out in the sun tack up for who knows how long. I wouldn't have made one take a step, nevermind try to gallop along the beach... or even hold a rider on his back. If you do go and find the horses to be in poor condition I urge everyone DON'T DO IT. Animal abuse is animal abuse, and it's a rotten way to put a damper on your vacation.
That being said, there are tons of other wonderful activites to enjoy. Have a wonderful vacation!

We have done both, but our Cozumel experience was prior to the hurricane so I can't say if it would be the same now. Neither of the barns Disney uses had any signs of horse abuse (and believe me, I would know it because I've been a horse owner for the past 25 years and current own two hooved "babies"). I did see some horses in bad condition at Xcaret, though, when we did a RCCL excursion there.

In Cozumel, we were allowed to trot and canter in a couple of spots, and after the ride, a man had his trick horse perform. It was a stallion that had been abused, but he retrained it using natural horsemanship. It was so calm that it laid down while people sat on its saddle for photos.

In Costa Maya, it was all walking the first time we rode. When we did the ride last week, they allowed those of us who wished to to trot or canter in a couple of spots. It was all very controlled and safe.

I would recommend either excursion, although as I mentioned, Cozumel might not be the same now.

the actual ride time is the same for both isn't it? about 50 minutes or so?

Was the ride to get to one versus the other significantly different?

Did either ride allow you to walk along the beach and/or in the ocean? Which ride had more enjoyable views from the trail?

We did the Fury sail in Cozumel just this last May and when we stopped at the private beach we had the option to do horseback riding for $20 a person which we did (it was about a 30 min ride) It was great cause we did a little of everything.

Oh I forgot to mention my horse did decide to lay down and scratch his back in the sand while I was riding him....I got a new horse!
