Horrific Accident at 6 Flags Kentucky.

I went to the Six Flags website and this ride is considered a family ride.

From the description, it sounds like it is a tower ride where you have a pnuematic rise up a tower and shot down.

I've ridden on similiar rides, Dominator (Dorney Park), Dr. Doom (IOA), Cedar Points version and a few others.

All of these rides have dangling feet. How would her feet get amputated with a dangling feet ride? Is there a metal footrest on this ride? Did the ride go to far /too fast and her feet slammed into the concrete/landing housing?

OMG! We have that same ride at our Six Flags and my son and I have ridden it twice. I wonder what happened. There should be nothing near your feet on that ride.

I was wondering the same thing! I rode this exact same ride at six flags over texas, and my feet didn't get near anything, I pretty much had to jump in the seat to even get on

OMG! That is horrible! Prayers for the girl and her family. I can't even imagine what the other riders saw and are thinking/feeling right now. Prayers for all of them as well.

This isn't a rollercoaster. On the six Flags website, this is classified as moderate family ride.

It is a tower ride. Not a rollercoaster.

Girl's feet severed on Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
(Thursday, June 21, 2007) - At Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky, a 13-year-old girl had both her feet severed at the ankles while she was riding the Superman Tower of Power freefall ride.
Superman Tower of Power is 177 feet tall. Its gondola is lifted upwards 12 mph to a height of 157 feet. When the gondola is dropped, it reaches a top speed of 54 miles per hour, and riders experience momentary freefall. The ride's braking system engages 20 feet from the ground, slowing the gondola to a stop.

The ride was manufactured by Intamin AG of Switzerland and opened at the park in 1995.

as was pointed out, this wasn't a rollercoaster, and still, riding rollercoasters is still one of the safest activities overall that someone can do....still TONS safer than driving a car.

The second link didn't work for me, and I think I'm glad about that. My thought would be that the cable passed over her legs with such speed that it cut right through.

I can't even imagine the horror.

DS16 bugs me all the time to bring him to the Six Flags here and I put him off as much as possible, but I guess it's probably no more dangerous than anything else...and probably GENERALLY safer to go on rides.

That's just too terrible! I doubt the cable could sever her legs but rip her feet off... heck yeah it could, and the thought makes me want to puke. I can't even imagine. My prayers go out to her and her family.
