A S. Windsor construction worker died on Friday after falling from the roof of a Torrington theater and landing head-first into a large vat of boiling tar, which police estimate to have been kept at a constant temperature of 500 degrees. This young man was only 21 years old. It looks like he lost his balance while on the roof, falling backwards into the tar. Co workers who attempted to rescue him suffered serious burns as well. He was married with a young wife. The press actually contacted her. She was sobbing audibly, saying only "He was mt husband". Its a horrible accident. I am appalled the press would call.

I hate when the press intrudes on people in times of sorrow.
Let them mourn in piece. How tragic for that poor family.

We had a family here years ago that was in a bad car accident. the woman lost her husband and either 3 or 4 kids, 1 of the children was just a baby. (I can't remember how many there were in the car and she was the only one not in the car) I can recall the news channels trying to go to her house and talk to her.

OMG how horrible. My thoughts and prayers are with that family. :(

Press is so dumb sometimes, some very clueless people there.

When my brother had a heart attack he was driving a car at the time, the press was the first ones at my SIL's house after the police wanting a statement. I could not believe it, a neighbor was nicely trying to tell him to go away and I literally tore off out the front door in my stocking feet in the snow. I swear I was so close from tackling the guy and pummeling the crap out of him. At that point we didn't know yet that my he had a massive heart attack while driving.

How tragic!! :( My thoughts and prayers are with the family...

My father is retired roofer both my DH and DB have worked with him. I remember that hot (tar) kettle in our yard and all three of them can show you their burns. I can't even imagine how horrible that was. It brings tears to my eyes.

DH and I are still horrified by this entire episode. DS's can't even think about it. From reading the article in one of our local newspapers, it certainly seems that a reporter contacted that poor young wife. I am calling the newsroom on Monday to voice my complaint and verify if indeed they did. I will then write a letter to the editor. Any comments you would like me include in my letter, please post them. He lived perhaps less than 15 miles from us.

I just did a search, to look a little further, and this poor guy worked for the same company my dh did while going to college! It is sooo sad. I remember him coming home at night and I would actually pick the tar off of the hair on his arms at night. Roofing is such a hard living. I really feel sorry his family.

I just called the Journal Inquirer of Manchester, Ct. and left my name, phone mumber and complaint with the News editor. I told him that the sensational head line and the fact that someone from his newspaper actually called the widow was reprehensible. I hope he calls me back.

Good for you Dawn! I feel so sad for this man's wife and family.
What a tragic accident.

I know first hand how the media can be so rude. My 21 yr. old nephew was burned beyond recognition in a fraternity house fire at a local college. The local tv stations were going to set up right in the funeral home parking lot on the day of the funeral until the funeral director said get out now! Then they set up across the street. It was then that I knew how celebs must feel when they don't have privacy.

I agree--good for you, Dawn, lodging a complaint. How morbid does the press think people are? I don't need to read about a woman bawling over her husband dying in a horrific accident. That poor woman, I can only imagine how she must feel right now. It's just awful. And his co-workers must be horribly upset as well, who witnessed it and tried to rescue him. It's so sad.

The mans father- in- law worked there also and was one of the two men who reached into the hot tar to pull him out.

What a horrible, horrible accident.
