Horrible parenting rears it's ugly head again.

I can't even come close to understanding this one. My kids can drive me nuts at times, but never in a million years would I dream of doing anything like this! The poor little girl
Child Abandoned At Burger King

BREMERTON, Wash. -- A woman reportedly told people at an East Bremerton Burger King that she "couldn't take it anymore" before walking out, leaving a 1-year-old girl at the restaurant.

Police were looking for the woman, presumably the child's mother, and workers with Child Protective Services were being called to investigate.

The child was unhurt, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. Medic crews examined her and released her to police.

Video from Chopper 7 showed police had the child in a Kitsap County Sheriff's Office patrol car.

You know, as sad as it is (no doubt)...I have to say, I am SO glad she left her somewhere safe (at least somewhere public and not in a garbage can). The alternative (which we see daily on the news) could have been so much more tragic. I think the mother probably did her daughter a HUGE favor...

I totally AGREE. This woman had obviously reached her end. Instead of dumping or HARMING the baby, she left her where other people would find her, and care for her.

Still a very sad situation for both of them.

I was thinking the same thing. And at least she announced it, so that people weren't wondering if she was coming back, or the little girl ran out after her into the street. Some people aren't just meant to be parents.

I can't condemn this woman, however, without knowing more. Was she on a drug to combat post-partum depression? Did she go off it?

I don't have children but do realize that giving birth can be an hormonally unsettling undertaking, perhaps moreso for some physiologies than others.

I'm reminded of that incident with the mother who killed all her children...she was off her meds, completely chemically imbalanced...and then the worst possible outcome. Thankfully this case didn't go to that extreme.

At any rate, both the child and that woman clearly need help.

I am obviously not sure what the underlying issues were, but it is unlikely she was suffering from post partum depression (the child is a year old). Although I guess it is possible. I wonder what support systems this woman had, if any? Surely something seriously went wrong. I hope all involved get the help they need.

I completely agree PAW. What the mom did was sad and horrible but it could have been so much worse. I wish more of those "parents" would take their kids somewhere like that instead of killing them or locking them up and starving them.
Its just so very sad any kid has to go through it.

Everytime I hear a child has been abandoned or killed, the post partum depression issue always comes up. I'm sick of people always using that excuse for their actions. I think in this case, adoption would be a wonderful thing.

Just to weigh in with a differing opinion:

Problems with mental health are not excuses. And post-partum depression is only one of many, many brain disorders that can affect a person. The brain is far more complicated than the body, and we are racing to keep up with understanding many of its malfunctions.

If this woman had been slowly dying from terrible degenerative disease and in desperation (without being able to think clearly or logically about reaching out for help) left her child in a place where someone else could care for her, we would not have the same reaction, nor would we decry the ability for the woman to get her child back if she was able to find a cure for her disease.

She's a human being and a mother obviously at the end of her rope. I feel badly for her, and for her child who must be very frightened by the odd behavior of her mommy. I'm glad she will have some stability and care but I also hope the mom can get the help she needs, too.

Sad, thing that the child was abandoned, but like others, I'm glad she left the child someplace where ppl would know, even if she did have to announce it.

As for the postprtum depression, I wouldn't be surprised if it had played a part in her actions. It does not always occur imediately after birth, and sometimes it does last for quite awhile. i have hear stories b4 of women still having it around the child's 1st birthday. Everybody is different.and i hope that the mom gets te help she needs, and the child is found a good home.

More information. They have the mom - she has been hospitalized for a nervous breakdown and will probably be arrested upon release. The daughter turns out to be three, was very talkative, and seemed in good spirits - she is currently being cared for by child services. The film clips showed her appearing to skip into the building - her mom has done something right.

I definately agree that it was better for the mom to have given her to someone who would watch out for her than some of the alternatives that come to mind. My prayers are with them both.
