Horrible Halloween Candy

I *love* Dum Dums. They're small, so it doesn't take all day to finish one. They used to have a flavor called 'Buttered Popcorn' that you'd get maybe two in the whole bag so I'd dig for them.

I liked Dum Dums as a kid too, but not the popcorn flavor. :crazy2: My favorites were pineapple, root beer, cream soda, and the "mystery flavor" with the question mark wrapper. Also liked Tootsie Pops, Sugar Daddies and BB Bats. And candy cigarettes and wax lips.

I'm sure this thread comes up every year, but I'm starting it again.

Anybody who gives these out as treats deserves to get their house egged.

I like all of those, haha. Had a Dum Dum yesterday from the bank. Love Mary Janes - they have a tiny bit of peanut butter in the middle. And Necco Wafers are made near me. I wouldn't give any of these out, mind you, but I might bring them into work or buy them in a penny candy store. For Halloween I bought the full size Reese's Cups, Hershey and Kit Kat bars. (And hid them.)

Interesting history: http://www.necco.com/Candy/Wafers/History.aspx

in the 1930's Admiral Byrd included 2½ tons of NECCO® Wafers in his supply list for a two year stay in the Antarctic. Then, during WWII, the U.S. Government requisitioned a major portion of production for American soldiers serving in WWII, as the wafers didn’t melt and rarely broke during transport.

LOL! I love Neccos and Mary Janes! I steal them from the kids.

When I was trick-or-treating, I was disappointed with anything that wasn't chocolate. Pixie stick & smarties were okay. Anything else was old people candy that I gave to my parents.

We give out full sized chocolate bars like hersheys, twix, snickers, Reeses etc (variety box) and also full sized starburst and skittles-- have them in a big bowl and the kids can pick what they wants but I also buy around 96 packs of fun dip (which is cheap and disgusting!) and I can't believe how many kids pick that gross fun dip over a nice full size candy bar!

But does anyone hate Reese's cups? We didn't buy them to give out because of the peanut butter though.

We give them out anyway- parents can go through their own kids candy if they have allergies. My daughters friend had a peanut allergy and every Halloween they would get together and swap out candy, my daughter would take all the peanut butter cups since that was her favorite and trade some other kind of candy the kid could eat for it.

One year we gave out Devil Dogs with orange filling, special Halloween edition. They were a big hit, but I haven't seen them in years. I did see something like them yesterday with green filling, special Halloween edition (I forget what they were, some sort of treat like a Devil Dog), but I'd already bought candy to give out (and I don't want those things around the house!) lol. It's fun hearing the ooh's and aah's when trick or treaters like what you're giving out. We hold the (Disney!) bowl out, too, so they can take what they like. Love Halloween! I noticed in the stores packages of chips and cheese doodles, things like that - does anyone give those out?

I loved all Halloween candy but I especially loved anything chocolate. Razor blades in apples were just staring to appear, but I disliked even before then apples and homemade crap like popcorn balls.
Do you remember people putting coins in apples? You had to eat the apple to find out what you got. Not bad, I liked the apples, too. But yeah, that got ruined with the razor blades. Sick.

I always hating getting anything black licorice and the Tootsie Rolls in flavors .....other than what a Tootsie Roll should be.
But but but the vanilla ones are so good. At Christmas time (I think) you can find bags of just the vanilla. They need to have bags of the vanilla and chocolate.

I loved getting Reese's Cups, but that was when people gave what they wanted. Food allergies weren't a thing back then.
The bag I grabbed is full of peanuts. It is the caramel & peanut lovers mix. Resse's miniatures (the individually wrapped ones) are my most favorite of all time, unfortunately these are not in the bag I bought.

I like those, too. All flavors. Speaking of Tootsie Rolls and Christmas, last year I discovered Peppermint Tootsie Pops. They were so good! I bought extra bags to keep on hand and still have some left!

In all fairness, the bags of Dum Dums are inexpensive compared to many other candy options around Halloween. Some people may buy them just so they can hand out something.
True. I'm not really sure how people give them out. You sort of just find them in the bottom of the bag. :lmao: Maybe they buy the big assortment of small candy pieces and just toss a handful in? Or make up bags? Or buy a bag just of dum dums and throw a handful in? I really don't know. Somebody must be buying them, though, so maybe you're right.

Don't like black licorice anything, candy corn and gummy anything! I remember getting homemade popcorn balls. I loved them but don't remember what was in them; they were kind of sweet.

Agree with all those except specifically cream soda dum dums, which I love for some reason. I would add raisins, smarties, anything that's fruity and chewy like Starburst or Skittles, those orange and black paper wrapped chewy things (like the Mary Janes, but for Halloween), and Tootsie Rolls :crazy2:
