Horrible Experiance with DCL - Please be aware!

2) 99.4 or 99.3 is not necessarily considered an abnormal temperature, particularly in women.
I just read through this entire thread, and while I still don't know if it can 100% determined if you had food poisoning or a virus, as an RN, I can tell you that 99.4 can be simply from deydration from throwing up---not necessarily indicative of a virus. The fact that the vomiting came on quite soon after your meal sure sounds like food poisoning, BUT, you could have been harboring the virus and it just chose to manifest at that time.
I am very sorry you had such an awful experience as this---I'm sure it was extremely disappointing. I think I would have taken the $1,300 credit and given DCL another chance, but I can understand how you must have felt in the heat-of-the-moment.

I agree with you -

shouldn't this thread be closed by now?

FWIW, I would note that SEVERAL MD's have weighed in on this thread (without identifying themselves as such) and offered good advice and opinions. For the record, I am not an M.D., so I am not defending myself here, but I do trust their opinions that this was likely a virus (rather than food poisoning) over some of the less expert opinions that have been expressed. I know some will disagree with me, but I appreciated the free medical advice.

Why would you want to go on board sick? I got sick on the cruise and I hated every minute. My wife and I were both sick with the same symptons you describe. We had our 2 year old son with us. I couldn't wait to get back on land.

Disney did the correct thing denying boarding and they would do the same thing 100 more times.

I'll take a shot at closing this thread :p

So here is my advice.

1) If you know that you have symptoms that you can attribute to something other then norwalk virus don’t volunteer that information. This was your first mistake. If you are sick, regardless of what you think it might be from, a 3-day cruise will certainly not help matters. However, even if this was a trip of a lifetime, there was no 100% guarantee to your fellow cruise passengers that it wasn't a virus. I feel bad for you having to go through this in the first place, it must have been just awful; but I wouldn't blame DCL for making a judgement with consideration to over 2,000+ passengers. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted to go on the 3 day cruise anyway with vomiting and {{{ewwww}}} other stuff going on with my body. Like what was said above, I would've wanted land, a cozy room, a nearby bathroom. Oh, and a T.V. with Satellite.
2) The doctor was either a liar with an agenda or was not well trained. I've only had experience with the DCL doctor on the Magic during 1 cruise where I tore my knee ligaments on the sports deck and I must say, the nurse and the doctor were adequate. I have a hard time believing his agenda was to prevent you and your family from boarding that ship. I believe if he had an agenda it would have been to prevent the exposure to 2,000+ passengers to what might have been a contagious virus.
3) Don’t eat at Akershus Completely Agree with that!!!
4) If you think you have food poisoning from Disney follow-up with it more then I did. I don’t know if you should go to a private hospital or go through Disney claims or what but I did not realize the impact that it was going to have on us. Excellent advice - there is a clinic on WDW property - my dh had to go there once. They were very good. It would have helped to have a diagnosis on paper from the physician at the clinic stating the cause as food poisoning if you wanted to go to the port sick. Of course, whether or not that physician would have come to that diagnosis is still questionable.
5) If you get into this type of a situation with the cruise line, and they make you an offer, make sure it’s fair and something you can live with. Don’t trust what they say. I really believe the $$ back on the cruise was fair. That $1,300 could have been used to secure a room for the 3 nights, pay for food for 3 days, and even have some left over for entertainment - which is what you had missed on the cruise. It was not DCL's fault you were sick. I tore my knee ligaments on the sports deck on Wednesday of a 7 day cruise. This was my fault. I was playing basketball and 'snap' down I went. I missed out on the rest of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (won't count Saturday morning-nothing going on there). Should I have filed a claim with DCL saying they should have provided better padded ground on the sports deck and insisted on pro-rating the cruise expense for my missing the last 3 days of entertainment? Not to mention the excursion I couldn't partake in at CC, but had paid for, because of my accident. Of course not. It wasn't DCL's fault. I think it's comparable to your situation with the exception of my torn knee ligaments didn't affect 2,000+ passengers.

I really hope you look objectively at these posts and decide to give DCL another try. This is not meant to be mean-spirited in the least, but I'm glad they were diligent about not letting you board while you showed signs of illness. If anything, it increases my confidence in DCL.

Not a doctor, but had a similar experience recently with the flu, where I had it BAD...and a few days later DS came down with it - I suffered for 2 weeks, he suffered for 3 days. DD and DH did not get it.
Yet those that did not become ill were likely contagious as well.

I think the only one who should close this thread is Belu. I haven't seen a post since about page 2. Still no answers........

The only one who can request this thread be closed is belu...of course if people stop bumping it up it will roll off of the front page and dissapear into DIS history.....

Thanks Alex but..........my goal is to make sure this thread IS bumped to the top until belu lets us know how they sighned the waiver....Yes, I have had "flu like symptoms" or "no". These boards are for "learning" not complaining. Soooo I want to learn......did DCL do a disservice or was the waiver not answered honestly.........? Does DCL allow you on the bus is you say you have had "symptoms"? I honestly don't think so........that's why we haven't heard back!!!

Um, how could she have not let the DCL bus driver know about her symptoms? She stated that the bus driver told her they'd have to clear her at the port before boarding.... so clearly she DID tell the bus driver about her symptoms.... and was allowed on the bus anyway.
I tend to more agree with what someone else said- that the bus driver is not the one that can make the decision -they aren't a dr or in the medical profession at all nor do they make those type of decisions for ANY reason for the ship. I would assume the ship's dr and/or ship's captain only make those decisions....

Lampskies...
1. they haven't even logged on in a couple of days
2. there is a rule against continued bumping

sometimes things just die
