I'll take a shot at closing this thread
So here is my advice.
1) If you know that you have symptoms that you can attribute to something other then norwalk virus dont volunteer that information. This was your first mistake. If you are sick, regardless of what you think it might be from, a 3-day cruise will certainly not help matters. However, even if this was a trip of a lifetime, there was no 100% guarantee to your fellow cruise passengers that it wasn't a virus. I feel bad for you having to go through this in the first place, it must have been just awful; but I wouldn't blame
DCL for making a judgement with consideration to over 2,000+ passengers. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted to go on the 3 day cruise anyway with vomiting and {{{ewwww}}} other stuff going on with my body. Like what was said above, I would've wanted land, a cozy room, a nearby bathroom. Oh, and a T.V. with Satellite.
2) The doctor was either a liar with an agenda or was not well trained. I've only had experience with the DCL doctor on the Magic during 1 cruise where I tore my knee ligaments on the sports deck and I must say, the nurse and the doctor were adequate. I have a hard time believing his agenda was to prevent you and your family from boarding that ship. I believe if he had an agenda it would have been to prevent the exposure to 2,000+ passengers to what might have been a contagious virus.
3) Dont eat at Akershus Completely Agree with that!!!
4) If you think you have food poisoning from Disney follow-up with it more then I did. I dont know if you should go to a private hospital or go through Disney claims or what but I did not realize the impact that it was going to have on us. Excellent advice - there is a clinic on WDW property - my dh had to go there once. They were very good. It would have helped to have a diagnosis on paper from the physician at the clinic stating the cause as food poisoning if you wanted to go to the port sick. Of course, whether or not that physician would have come to that diagnosis is still questionable.
5) If you get into this type of a situation with the cruise line, and they make you an offer, make sure its fair and something you can live with. Dont trust what they say. I really believe the $$ back on the cruise was fair. That $1,300 could have been used to secure a room for the 3 nights, pay for food for 3 days, and even have some left over for entertainment - which is what you had missed on the cruise. It was not DCL's fault you were sick. I tore my knee ligaments on the sports deck on Wednesday of a 7 day cruise. This was my fault. I was playing basketball and 'snap' down I went. I missed out on the rest of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (won't count Saturday morning-nothing going on there). Should I have filed a claim with DCL saying they should have provided better padded ground on the sports deck and insisted on pro-rating the cruise expense for my missing the last 3 days of entertainment? Not to mention the excursion I couldn't partake in at CC, but had paid for, because of my accident. Of course not. It wasn't DCL's fault. I think it's comparable to your situation with the exception of my torn knee ligaments didn't affect 2,000+ passengers.
I really hope you look objectively at these posts and decide to give DCL another try. This is not meant to be mean-spirited in the least, but I'm glad they were diligent about not letting you board while you showed signs of illness. If anything, it increases my confidence in DCL.
