Horrible Day at Work

A quarter of our work force was let go today at work due to the economy and mortgage crisis. 36 people. They were sent an email for a mandatory meeting and told. They weren't even allowed to come back to their desks and get their things. An entire team in my area is gone now. I had to run outside to say goodbye to them and then I went back in and got some of their personal things for them. One woman was at lunch and missed the meeting and found out as one of the HR people was getting another woman's purse for her. It was awful.

I feel so horrible and sad. Such good people. Nice people. I have spent every day with them for the past three years and now they are gone, just like that. I think this is the beginning of more to come.

To anyone on the boards who is going through a job loss right now - you are all in my thoughts along with my co-workers. These are uncertain times we're in.

I remember back when I worked for Victorias SEcret, when beauty and lingerie were managed separately... We got an email stating a mandatory conference call that afternoon...for both managers of each division. On the call, they told us that the 2 were merging, and within 24 hrs we would be notified if we were to take over the other side, or if our job was eliminated... so basically, 1 store manager, and 2 assistants would lose their job. I was up against the beauty mgr who had been there 5 yrs... I was lingerie manager and been there for 5 months... That was an awful 24 hrs full of tears and stress. I ended up getting the position, but felt awful, thought that was an awful way for a company to operate, and quit 3 months later....

they could not even get their personal things???

I have a friend who was told last thursday that the next day was to be her last...the boss could not make another weeks payroll....

of course this is when I decide(need ) to get back into the workforce after being a sahm for 19 years!!
