Hopping around the resorts?

We (me, spouse, son) are planning a trip to WDW and will be staying on-site (since there is just no other way to go, in our opinions.) While we are there, we would like to drive around to a few of the resorts that we have never seen, in order to get a feel for whether or not we would like to stay there in the future. My question is, do we need a special parking pass or anything? Are we free to drive around and park at the different resorts? I know we could take the bus, but we would prefer to just drive it, since that would be faster.

We do this on every visit. Your resort will give you a dashboard permit at check-in. At most other Disney resorts, that's all you need to park. The exception is the monorail resorts where they have had problems with people parking in the resort lots and going off to MK for the day. At those resorts, they will issue you a time-limited permit (usually 3 hours) at the guard shack.

From the title of your post I thought that you wanted to pretend that you were a rabbit and hop around the resort. To each his own was my thought. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Well, I suppose we COULD do that, but driving would be so much faster! Hopping would burn more calories, though, so it's a thought... :D

They do allow visits to other resorts, and you are correct using your car is the best way to do this. The only thing they frown upon is using other resorts' pools. I have heard they had problems a few years ago with CBR guests driving to BC to use that pool. The front guard may question you if you are dressed in beach clothes, and you may be asked to show your room key if you are at the pool and for some reason look like you don't belong.

Otherwise, if you have a few hours to kill (maybe on checkout day) it is great to visit the other resorts and dream you won the lottery.

Actually, they won't even let you in to Stormalong Bay until you show your room key. They then put a orange wrist band on all members of your party so you can come and go for the day after that.
