I just cancelled a direct flight for a flight with a connection. The cancelled flight did not get us to Orlando until around 6 PM. Ugh. Hope I made the right decision. Ugh.

What time does the direct flight get in? You do realize that direct does not equal non stop, right?

I should have said non-stop. The flight with the connection gets in at 11.

I take that you are leaving home the evening before . or around 5 am on the day of departure.

( At least 6 hours before your arrival time of 11 am )

Yes. Flight leaves at 6 something AM. we are super close to the airport, 15-20 minutes.

The only thing I've noticed about taking 6-7 am flights is that unless you are used to getting up at 3-4 am already, it throws your system off for a couple days. We used to do the real early flights for cruises. But after noticing that we were always just too tired to function that day when we arrived and weren't much better off the next day, we decided it was better to just fly in the night before and eat the extra night of hotel rooms. While its not the exact same as what you are doing, I would probably figure on an extra nap once you get there.

We do fine with early morning flights our first day. That evening is an early to bed time but all is good.
I think you made a great choice OP

I would have no problem with that change. Of course, I fly out of a small airport, so connections don't bother me like they do some others.
