Hooters

We are staying in QI Paza this year and I remember reading somewhere that opposite is a shopping complex with a Hooters bar in it. I have a rough idea what Hooters is but have never been to one. Is it appropriate to take a 7 yr old son, who has a fascination with all things female, much like his father? We will be chaperoned by his mother, my wife Donna, (she has a fascination for men things)!

Seriously, Hooters is not an evil den of iniquity. It is simply a place for wings and beer, which may be a little previous for your 7yr old, but there is nothing sordid about it, and as the lovely Mrs Hogg said, there are plenty of families there..

Now if you can get your 7 yr old to have an interest in silicon, you could be on to something

Judging by the gawping and drooling displayed by you and Kev, I think there may be a little bit more to it than that!

To be fair, Martin, I would not have a problem whatsoever in taking a child there. The servers are delightful and will make you all feel comfortable.

We must have just been unlucky when we went there then... I was expecting other families/tourists to be there, but there were no other familes and I was the only female customer there!

Husband got his "life experience", but we both agreed that we wouldn't be going back: I felt very out of place (felt like a "gentleman's club" - not seedy, but because I was the only female customer) and the food was really quite poor (we had sort sort of "batter" platter - i.e. very heavy on the deep-fried batter...)

If you want to go there to see the girls or see what the fuss is about, then do it... if you are looking for a good bar and nice food, go elsewhere. If you do go there, then stick to a drink and some onion rings (I thought the wings were poor) and definitely don't attempt lunch.

Sorry to put a less positive spin on things, but think it is good to have opposing opinions sometimes

You certainly wont have a problem taking your 7year old to hooters.

I have not been to any in or around Orlando (the boss, DGF, thinks its unneccessary) however i did visit quite a few in and around Dallas/Fortworth a few years ago and the food and service was great. We always used to go between 6-7pm, you always got double wings if you went at this time! As we had british accents my mate and i always got 'extra ' attention and although he was a good looking guy i suspect they were more interested in the tip we left rather than us. I will say dont expect too much (from a mans' point of view), in the hooters ive visited not all the servers are what you'd expect. That's not to say that they arent lovely girls, because they are, but they dont all have large chests and no brains!

There are SO many restaurants where the waitresses wear skimpier clothes than what you see in Hooters. jsharpay's description of "tank tops and short shorts" is quite accurate and I would add that they wear thick hosiery with the short shorts plus some form of white trainers. It's much a do about nothing. The experience that AliceGardner had when she was the only female is HIGHLY unusual. That's never happened to me. They have a variety of things on the menu but it's really about the wings, fries and beer. The "breasts" thing is more tongue-in-cheek. Anyone who has never been or has a wife that won't consider going should really peek in and see that it's nothing. It is NOT a gentlemen's club in any manner.

In addition to the Hooters previously mentioned on I-Drive which is in the Pointe Orlando shopping center, there are also nearby locations in the shopping center on Palm Parkway in Lake Buena Vista and also on Kirkman Road just north of Universal Studios.

Jumping in here...we have taken our children to Hooters many times. Granted, you get a different type of attention as a family than if you were in a group of guys. We've been to probably 5 Hooters in 4 states and have had the same experience everytime. They are very nice to me (the wife lol) and take good care of the kids--crayons, their own menu/coloring pages. I like their food! They have great wings, salads, and curly fries. They also have good peel and eat shrimp too.

The outfits are really just snug tank tops and short orange shorts (with pantyhose/stockings under).

We've been to the one on Palm Parkway several times plus ones in Tampa, Rock Hill (South Carolina), and Hollywood (Miami). Each time there has been a cross-section of clientele (and the Rock Hill and Tampa ones weren't in tourist areas), so I do think your experience was unusual, Alice. Having said that, I do agree with you about the food - I'd rate it somewhere below dreadful - and I really feel we've done the whole Hooters thing to death now. The trouble is, we've visited Orlando with various friends and as soon as the guys realise Matt's been "allowed" inside one, they're all clamouring to do the same . I much prefer the Orlando Ale Houses (aka Millers' Ale House). We've been to the Florida Mall, Altamonte and Lake Buena Vista locations.

Ah, how to describe the joy that is Hooters.........

As others have said it certainly isn't 'seedy' in any way. The thing I like about the place (ok, ONE of the things I like about the place) is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's about having fun. Read the history of the place on the menu and you'll see what I mean.

I've always found the young ladies that work there to be very personable and welcoming to children. Although you wouldn't exactly class it as a family environment (ladies with tight tee shirts, beer etc.) it's hardly the devils back garden either.

My strangest experience in Hooters? I was in Hangzhou in China with work last year and the boss of the factory we were visiting took us to Hooters! It has to be said that Chinese ladies, although very nice, are not really er.... the right shape to work at such an establishment.

Maybe we were just unlucky. We went to the Palm Parkway one at about 1.30/2pm on a weekday (Thursday, I think?). Virtually all the men in there LOOKED like locals (think "big burly blokes with beer-guts" - not dressed like tourists). I honestly did feel odd! The girls seemed lovely, but I couldn't help but feel that the male customers were wondering what I was doing there... . I wouldn't say that it was horrible, but I certainly didn't feel hugely comfortable... It would have been fine if there were other tourists (including women) or families as customers.

Having said that, I do agree with you about the food - I'd rate it somewhere below dreadful - and I really feel we've done the whole Hooters thing to death now.

Glad someone agrees about that (was beginning to think that I am just fussy). I was expecting something a bit like TGI Friday, but it wasn't anywhere near that good. . If you like everything (including your wings?!?) deep fried to death in about an inch or teeth-shattering batter, then it might be for you...

we have been about 3 times now. we are myself ,hubby ,son 8 daughter4.
the food is ok but very large portions. place is clean,friendly and i could have sat there allday as it was really relaxing in there.
my son was 6 when he first went there and he was very comfortable. as a family we did not feel uncomfortable in any way, infact my daughter chose it when it was her turn to choose where to eat one lunch time she even got a t-shirt.
my advice go along and see for yourself each family has different views.
