To all of you that read my rant a while ago, I just reserved a minivan with National with their advertised rate that wasn't "available" since last week when they changed their specials. I was able to get a 9 day minivan with the DC discount and an extra $15 with my BJ's coupon for a grand total of 301.50. The best I had before that was $349 with Alamo. I am so happy that I can just walk to the garage and pick which van I want and not wait in line.

This isn't just for minivans. Those of you who need any rental until 2/10/04 jump on this as soon as you can. Those of you with ressies already, check the rate again. Go to the top of the screen and you'll see a ad for full sizes for $189. Click on it and you'll get a list of cars from compact to minivan. You might get at better rate and don't forget your DC discount. Even though it is technically expired, if they recognize it they have to honor it! ( I hope).

Happy hunting!

After seeing your post I decided to go and give National another chance to lower my rate. I too had tried last week when they changed the dates and was coming up with $300+++ for a 5 day rental.

Well I put in my code for my $15 off from Vacation Outlet (mousesavers) and the DC discount and now my ressie went from $217 down to $174!

I've got ER for a full size on 12/18 thru 12/23.

I also want to thank you sweetp267 for posting the information. I found this so frustrating that I couldn't get that weekly rate to work out last week. You made my day today! :wave2:

No problem. I know how frustrating it can be to get a somewhat reasonable rate for a car at any time of the year. It just seemed that all the rental companies in general were particularily stingy the last couple of months.

Glad I could help.

Thanks for this post! I rechecked my rate for first week of Dec. and it went down $10! Same codes, just a lower base rate. Of course, i will be checking right up until the day we leave now!

I don't know how you feel about Alamo, but they have a special for Mini Vans for $ 209.00 p/ week. $ 39.99 xtra day.

Alamo is OK, if you like to wait in those lines and be pushed to buy insurance like so many people have told us on the board here. I like National's EA and ER. No lines and I can get any car I want. If it is a little more expensive it makes up for not standing in line and being hounded by the agents. Maybe Alamo at other airports are a little better, but until I hear otherwise, I'll try to avoid Alamo.

I know that there are good rates at other companies. But I 100% agree with sweetp267 that I don't want to wait in lines. That is precious vacation time and besides, DH is not very patient. He doesn't care about the cost, just cares about making things as stressfree as possible.

I just hear about how much it costs when we get home and get an unexpected expense.;)
