I am planning a trip in August 07 for my soon to be family of 5.
I was wondering if any veterans had tips for the best night of the week to book the HDD.
We are staying at the CBR and we have to rely on disney transport since I'm not renting a car. If I remember correctly, I have to get the bus from the hotel to the MK and then take a ferry? Does that go over to Fort Wilderness? I basically want to know if we should try to book for an EM night at MK, or should we just make the HDD the only activity that night? Should we try to go on our first night? Or would the stress of getting to the hotel, getting our room, and then getting over to FW be too much for the first night.

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to try to plan the best action plan without stressing everyone out. My kids will be 11, 4 and 9 (10?) months and so far I am the only one to have ever gone to Disney.

Any tips are much appreciated!

i would not book it on the first night as you never know about delays of flights, etc. you are correct in the route to take from the hotel. or, you could go to downtown disney and pick up the fort wilderness bus. we prefer the MK route. what ever night sounds best for your family is the best night for you. we usually just pick a night and that is when we go. the HDD is fun, corny, and just a great way to spend the evening. we love it!!

It doesn't matter which night because its always a large crowd. Book the premium seats downstairs and for the middle show, I thinks its 7:30 or so. My best advice is .... DON'T MISS IT.... it's a great fun filled evening for all. My wife and I have gone 6 times in 12 years and it never gets old. :thumbsup2

If possible, take a cab. We took one from POFQ and I think it was about $15, there's no waiting for a bus, no transferring and no worrying about the timing! If there are five of you, you can alway call Mears and request a van for five.

Hi there! DF and I went to a 9:30 show on a day we did AK since they closed at 5pm. We also went the last week of Aug. and it appeared that HDDR was only half full. Since we were coming from SOG we just took a bus to TTC and then the ferry over to Fort Wilderness. The walk from the boat is about 5 min. Couldn't be easier! At the end of the night the boats were closed but a ton of resort buses were waiting for us. We also got there about 30 min early. Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much!
The transport tips are great, and I didn't know about the campfire. that sounds like fun!
