Hello! We are planning our 2nd trip to WDW and want to see some things we missed the first time. We will be there Dec.13-20. I just looked at the All Ears sight and saw the price for Hoop Dee Doo...yikes! For our family, boys ages 11,9,6 and DH and myself, it would be $201.52!!! Yikes. Is this worth it? We really enjoyed the parks last time and didn't even go to most of our dinners we'd planned because we didn't want to leave the parks. I was thinking we could do this the evening of one of our Universal days. So what do you think???? We are willing to spend to have a nice vacation, but we are thrifty and travel a bunch. Any advice appreciated!
TIA

I'm in your shoes! There's been a ton of other threads with reviews on Hoop Dee Doo and many seem to pick this dinner show rather than the Spirit of Aloha. I'm pretty excited by what others say about it.

We went Monday 3/6 at the 7:15pm dining time, and we liked it. The plus is that my 23mos ds liked the food..big plus, but we didn't have to pay for him. We enjoyed the food alot, and the show was what it was-fun for the whole family. With the age group your bringing, you'll have fun..but is it worth it, that's hard to tell. We enjoy dry family style humor, if that is not your bag..then pass on it. There is alot to do over at the lodge though, horse rides, petting zoo, pictures, etc. What we did not appreciate was the insanity on the internal buses out of there, just a zoo. The way down was calm, and a pleasure even..but on the way back..a disgrace! So while we liked the show, and enjoyed the food alot-we will not go back. We are people that like to drive to our destination, arrive, enjoy, and drive out on our own. We are not Disney transpostation people, so this is the only thing that will keep us away. If you choose this place, your children will love it..as well as you! Enjoy :thumbsup2

As a point of comparison, I just paid $201 for tickets for six for the Dixie Stampede show. About $50 per person must be the current rate for this dinner theatre type of entertainment.

Two years ago we did Hoop De Doo with four kids (ages 9 - 16). They loved it and still repeat some of the jokes to each other now.

We have done the "Spirit of Aloha" which my DS (10 the first time and 14 the second) thought was so- so. However, we saw the HDDR when he was 14 and that is the dinner he chose to repeat this time. He isn't a picky eater but he just like atmosphere better at the HDDR. We also didn't have any problems with Disney transporation to this show (NOT the same with the Aloha show - we were at the last show and you couldn't take the monorail you had to wait for a bus, ride to DTD and then transfer to your resort. It took us almost 2 hours to get back to POFQ from Poly.). The buses were waiting when the show was over and it took us right to our resort, POFQ.

We went for the first time last summer. My niece and nephew (twins) were 7 years old and really enjoyed it a lot. They still talk about bringing their grandparents, who did not make this trip. The adults really enjoyed it, too! It is definately an experience not to be missed!

We have never gone for that reason. I see it as too much time away from the parks (even though we go for two weeks)! I'd rather spend the money and go to Whispering Canyon. My kids love it there.

HANDS DOWN---- one of the BEST dinner shows at WDW!!! I wouldn't even compare it to any other restaurant, like Whisp Can.!
We went in Oct. with mom, dad, DD8,DS 6, and grandparents--- and I took a small moment to stop and watch my entire family laughing and having a great time! What a DISNEY MEMORY!!

Yes, do it!! :cheer2:

We love Hoop de Doo. We can't afford to do it all the time, but try to fit it into our plans every few years. The way I look at it, the price is for dinner and a show, so it's really not too bad (oftentimes you would pay $50 per seat for tickets to a concert or show and not even get dinner).

HDDR gets my vote. I've been going to WDW for the past 25 years and had never done this until last July. I am sorry that I didn't do it sooner!!! Food was excellent and the entertainment can't be beat. If you're going to splurge on one dinner this is the one to do it!!! :goodvibes

Thanks everybody!!! I'm really, really surprised at all of the very enthusiastic votes for Hoop-Dee-Doo!! Thanks so much! Now...would you spend two TS credits from the meal plan for this or pay it out of pocket??

Can you drive yourself there, not use Disney transportation? We may try to do this on a Universal day.
Thanks so much!

I would use the meal credits and pay out of pocket for a counter-service meal at sometime to make up for the missing TS meal. It will be so worth it!

We were planning on going to the HDDR. Then we were watching the Disney planning dvd, and my dh brought up an excellent point. We live in the Pigeon Forge, TN area, and the show looks to be pretty much something we could go see any day of the week for much cheaper. Thoughts anyone? Is it really something great and different? Or should we plan on something else?

I say do it once, it's alot of money, we used the dining plan for ours so it didn't hurt as badly. It's alot of fun, I'd go again, my husband said once is enough, but we enjoyed it.

I say go, enjoy, and get them a few less toys for Christmas! :-)

It's a hoot!

Seeing as how you're from PF I'd plan on something else. While the HDDR is entertaining, it's very pricey. Reminded me of Sweet Fanny Adams Theater in Gatlinburg, only a lot more money and of course fried chicken included.

First let me say that it has been at least 8 years since we were last there & yes, I know that it's about the show not the food HOWEVER... if I am spending $200 on dinner I'm going to Emeril's.

Hi all,

We have had good luck taking the launch from the MK over to Ft. Wilderness, and Pioneer Hall is only a real short walk from the dock - maybe five minutes tops. Had great fortune two summers ago on the return trip (after 7:15 show). Got to see EWP at three spots and Wishes from the boat. Also, as Crazy Debbie said, there are busses right there by the Hall to take you back to your resort.

We think the HDDR is well worth the money!! Just remember, it is all you can eat and drink, with tax and tip included, and an almost two hour show. One of the best things WDW has to offer. Enjoy!!!

We finally did the Hoop this past vacation in Feb '06, and the show really was very entertaining, the meal is another matter.

My three kids DS11, DS7 & DD6 laughed the night away, which made up for the worst meal we've ever experienced at WDW. If we ever did it again, it would be for the show, not the food. :sunny:

Our thoughts are we live in the LAND OF HOOP-DEE-DOO, so no way am I spending that much money for a HO DOWN. I can go to any number of them for half that much money including good music and food. I would choose to do something different if at WDW.
