Hoop Dee Doo =X

Some folks over on the DDP dining forum are seriously slamming the Hoop-Dee-Doo. Cheesy show, old costumes, so so food. Is it that bad ?? I've heard such great things about it on this board so I am confused.

- Is it that the other people are just used to more high end places and resorts and maybe not into camping ??

- Do the Fort Wilderness regulars just love it because of the experience and maybe because of the nostalgia ??

If this show wasn't at The Fort, would you still go to it ??

We did the HDDR this past Dec while we were there and loved it even the kids there was lots of food even for picky children who hate everything (no not ours my inlaws kids LOL). The beer was draught but hey all you could drink was worth it even if it was only draught beer. This is one meal we are sure to do again next we are going to try the back yard BBQ. We don't stay at FW but try to get over for a walk and campfire each trip it is a place I can handle in small doses and even if HDDR wasn't at FW I would go again.

And how large is your family?

When my entire family goes, there are quite a few of us. Which is why we don't normally do the Hoop Dee Doo, because of the price.

If it's just my wife and I, then sometimes we plan on going, other times we don't even think about it.

Like I said, it's not that I don't agree on the fact that we wish it was cheaper. I just don't look at the fact that we can't always afford it in the same light as you do, that's all :) In the end, we both want the same thing though. As I've said before, I wish I could go to the Hoop Dee Doo every time we go, it's just not feasible however.

Wow we found it to be a blast with our large group in Dec we had 17 people with us for the show and dinner and it made it such a memorable time especially when the performers came to our table and made my brother in law go as red as a beete LOL.

Oh don't get me wrong, sometimes our entire family will go! In fact, for my 30th Birthday we spent it at the Fort and my entire family was there, we went to the Hoop Dee Doo with about 10 of us in total, it was a blast!

It's easier if you get everyone to kind of pay for themselves, it's not nearly as bad that way (of course, someone still has to pay for the kids...lol).

That's EXACTLY what's got some of us taking a breath and saying.."hey is it worth it?"...especially having seen it before. Yes..it was good hearted family fun. That being said..is it something I want to spend $300. to $400 on again? When I'm the one pulling the cash out the wallet? When you've got 5 or 6 mouths to feed at ADULT prices?...Maybe not. My kids at 10 weren't eating adult sized portions..at least not $59.00 dollars worth! Might be somewhere you would eat if you knew your kids were capable of eating enough to make it somewhat worth the price. These are things to consider when deciding whether you want to spend the money. If on the dining plan you need to allocate two table service credits for this experience. It's really an individual decision. For some it's a once in a life time visit..and they are going all out. Others are on a budget, in which case..you aren't going to include this in your plans. I know if it were my husband and myself..we might decide to go for it..when we have four or five along with us..I'd be giving it a second thought or two.

It is also easy if you are on the dining plan as all but our family was so 12 of the 17 people had no worry but even still I equate that to the cost of taking my mother and father in law and one of our friends from Cali to the Cali Grill to the tune of 500 US for the meal for the 5 of us. The kids all stayed at the resort so our 3 were entertained by their cousins LOL. That was just food costs not including drinks with drinks the meal was over 650 which my wife and I paid for. We felt obligated as the week before we all left for Disney my in laws gave us back our money from paying for our cruise as everyone was supposed to pay thier own way on the cruise but the in laws decided to give us all back our money so we took them for dinner to say thanks.

Yea, the good thing is you're not only paying for food, you're also getting to see a great show (although that's up to personal opinion...lol)! That's why the price doesn't bother me as much as it would if it was just the food (which would make no sense), there is no other show like it in Disney World, and actually, I've never seen another show like it anywhere near where I live!

You are exactly right, there are some places you can go to eat and easily spend twice as much money, and just get an hour long meal (and as you mentioned, no drinks!).

For 50- 59 bucks, for all you can eat, all you can drink, taking up a couple of hours, and getting a really good show at that, I think it's worth the money. It adds up the more people you go with, but that's to be expected.

I agree I look at our meal at teh Cali Grill ( I didn't even like it) and what it cost compared to our HDDR meal and cost and the HDDR was by far a better meal and deal for us in comparison. I didn't actually like anything offered on the menue at the Cali Grill I wanted to go to the Flying Fish instead but they wanted to try CG so we went there. I think my father in law liked his meal the rest of us werent all that impressed with it at all.

Didn't they used to offer a 9:30 performance for this show..I know it was a while back..but if I remember correctly that particular performance was less money also? My kids were young at the time, and I remember thinking by the time we would be done the younger two would be falling a sleep in their seats. However..I have to tell you going with young adult kids now(youngest being 15..and he could put me to sleep!)...that would be a nice alternative.

They still offer a 9:30 performance, but I think they all are the same price.

Hmm..I thought I remembered one of the performances being less expensive at one point. Maybe I was thinking of the old Mickey Luau for the kids at the Poly.:confused3 They used to have a 4:30 performance..earlier than the night time one..and geared for the kids. We've been to the 7:30 performance of the HDDR so as to catch the Electric Water Pagent on Bay Lake afterward. I thought I had seen that they weren't offering three performances a night all year round any longer.

Okay, I thought you had kids yourself .......my bad;)

We do, in a sense...lol. Normally when we go we pay for my parents, brother, and my nephew, just as a thank you for all the great times we had growing up.

Just because you don't have kids of your own doesn't mean you're always just paying for yourself ;) You're not the only one that feels the stretch of a pocketbook my friend, kids or no kids, that really has no relevance to this at all :P

Some people post rumours around here just to get people riled up, they are normally not true at all ;)

There are still going to be three performances a night, that is not changing at all. The only thing changing is that (I posted this earlier in this thread):

The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue is planning to scale back its schedule during the “Low Fall” season of 2007. From August 30 - October 29, 2007, the dinner show is scheduled to perform Thursday through Monday only.

Which makes sense, those are the most dead times at the Fort and WDW, no sense in running a show at those times.

They do have a 9:30 show and that is when the discounts are offered. I have used my DDE card to get 20% off.

Yep, ProudMom is right, now I remember. We were going to go a year ago, but we didn't want to go at 9:30, but we wanted to use our DDE card, so we just ended up not going.

Thanks for the info, I had totally forgotten about that!

Thanks....I knew that there something about the later show being discounted.
Almost $12 a person difference...that could add up to some pretty big savings if you are taking 5 or 6 people. :thumbsup2

Don't forget, you don't have to get the 59 dollar package either, the 50 dollar package is available, and that as well can save you 9 bucks a person. The view to me is the same really no matter where you are, so it's not much of a difference in the packages.

Pardon me for not knowing, but what is a DDE card?
