Hi,
Has anyone done Hoop Dee Doo lately? We went on our first trip in 1997, and are thinking about doing it again on the next one.
Also, does anyone know what price tickets are these days?

I had not been in several years. All of us, including two children really, REALLY enjoyed it. Total ticket price for the four of us was right at $150.* We got a discount through annual passholder or American Express or Disney Club -- I can't recall for certain which. You can call reservations and ask about available discounts.

Again, this was one of the highlights of the trip for everyone!

*edit -- I looked up prices: adults were $36.45 (discounted from $49.01) and child was $18.45 (discounted from $24.81)

We have been twice and loved it both times. It is not something we would do every trip but definatly worth trying!

We went just last week. I wasn't sure how we would like it but we ended up really enjoying the show and food. The entertainers were well cast and quite talented. The food was plentiful if not "gourmet" and we all had plenty to eat.

We asked about discounts when picking up our tickets and the CM told us there were no discounts of any kind available (not AAA or AP or DC or any others she could find). She said she had not seen any discounts for 2003 although that could change I guess.

Go and have a great time!!

I'm always the odd man out of this one. We hated HDDR... I think it was more the waitresses fault than anything. We were the last table she delivered the food to and the first one she cleared the food away from... when we asked her to leave the food she said she couldn't and took it away. My DD is allergic to strawberries and we let them know that when we made the PS... The waitress was rude and told us that we could not subsitute her dessert under any circumstance... wouldn't even bring us plain shortcake and icecream! The show was annoying... the womens voice made me cringe - but looking back it might have been that I just had a headache because we were hungry.

Robin, your not the only odd one out on this one. We attended the HDDR this past December for the first time. I now call it the Hoop Dee Don't and won't be going back. We paid the full price as no discounts were available to us (almost $100 for 2 adults). The show is too corny for our liking (dry type of slap stick comedy). There are many families there that seem to enjoy it, probably because the parents can drink (making the show seem more enjoyable and relaxed - remember this is personal opinion) and the kids can understand the show as it seems to be written more to their level and many get to interact with the characters. The food is okay and edible, but we would've perferred to eat at twice at LeCellier for what we spent here. This was the only true disappointment that we had with Disney in all of the different times we've been there. I wrote a comment on another board after attending and got a lot of reviews. What I truly noticed people saying over and over was that there children enjoyed (several reviewers made comments like I did) the show and they were okay with it.

Remember - this is personal opinion only, everyone is entitled.

We did this in July. We loved the show, but thought the food was terrible. Now this is really elementary school cafeteria food. The strawberry shortcake is nothing like real strawberry shortcake - no real strawberries and juice. Just a square of white cake with bottled strawberry topping and a dime-sized squirt of artificial whipped cream. The chicken was only so-so. The salad looked a bit wilted. If I could do the show without the food, I'd do it in a minute. The show was real fun and made up for the bad food.

We are planning on doing this in September and we'll be paying full price--is one seating time better than another. I picked the 7p.m. show.

That's the time I ended up picking too. The early was too early and the late my daughter would be too tired to enjoy. (Or maybe that would be me that was too tired!)
I think I will take it in the spirit it is intended and just go have fun.

We have done HDDR 3 times, once with the kids and twice without. We have loved it all 3 times and it did not have anything to do with being able to drink either! Its just a fun family dinner show. We love the corny slapstick and evidenty others do to, its the longest running show at WDW and sells out weeks in advance all the time. We went this last Dec. and were just as impressed as the first time we went several years earlier..smjj

We did the HDDR last year and will probably never do it again. I made our reservations very early and were assured of really good seat - front row. Well it seems not all the shows were sold out so they combined some of the shows and suddenly my early reservation was preceeded by a few others. When we got there we were given a really bad table, way back, behind a post. I complained but nothing was done. I was told (regardless of what I was told at reservations time) that no tables were guaranteed and you got what they gave you. The food was so-so and the show was so corny it was rediculous. There were no Disney characters which my grandchildren were expecting and all in all it was an expensive ordeal. After all of the hype here on the boards about it I still can't figure out what the big deal is!

We've been to the show five or six times since '92. We don't even drink....I am kind of dumb, maybe that's why I enjoy this show so much.

Every time we go with friends or family that haven't been to the HDDR, we go. Lat time was this past October. 15 people, no one had been before, they thought I was crazy for demanding this show and making the reservations(and paying for them) so early. We were just about at the front on the right side, it was great, every one in the party commented on how good a choice the HDDR was.

Many of my friends and family are kind of dumb also....maybe that explains it.

The show is a blast, and I understand why it has been around so long and books so far in advance. We have been twice and both times most definitely had real strawberry shortcake. I don't "do" fake strawberries (that is nasty!) but our dessert definitely had big slices of fresh strawberries. I had to force myself to stop eating even though I felt like I was somehow wasting those wonderful strawberries. Also, the chicken was as tender and flavorful as any fried chicken I have ever had. And we didn't have salad -- we had corn as our veggie. It was fine, but I was more interested in other items.

Our server was wonderful, volunteering to bring pizza or mac and cheese for my son. Also, as far as the drinking, we were given the option on our second visit (which we declined) but on the first visit, years ago, alcoholic beverages were not included, sooooo I don't think you have to be drunk to enjoy it. Perhaps the food can be hit or miss, but we had fresh, delicious meals and laughed long and hard at HDDR, and will definitely do it again!

As I mentioned in my earlier post we love this show. The very fact that it has been around so long prove, that I am not alone. Sure there are going to be those who think it is corny, its suppose to be. It has never had Disney character and they don't advertise that they do!!. We have never had bad food and we make our reservation far enough in advance to get good seats. They book based on when you made your PS. For those who did not like it fine. For those who have not yet seen it, try it. The very fact that it is still playing after all these years says it all...smjj
