We went to the HDDR on Tues and that was THE best fried chicken I have ever had. Does anyone have the reciep or know where to get it. It was sooo good. Please help
The fried chicken at HDDR tastes exactly like my mom's chicken. Here's her recipe:
1 chicken, cut into pieces with the breasts split
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
peanut oil
1/2 cup bacon drippings
1. Place about 2 inches of oil in a heavy dutch oven. Heat to 375, using a candy thermometer to ensure the oil is hot enough. Add the bacon grease.
2. Combine the flour, salt, pepper, and cayenne into a large zip lock bag. When the oil is to temp, dip a few pieces of chicken into the buttermilk and then place in the bag, shaking to coat the pieces.
3. Place the chicken in the oil. Don't crowd the pan. Cook on both sides for 20 mins to brown.
4. Reduce the temp to 350. Cook on both sides for 15 more minutes per side to cook through.
5. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle while hot with a little more salt.
I called my mom to verify the recipe and she yelled at me for not remembering that she marinates the chicken, overnight, in olive oil, chopped garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper. Whoops!
